Once again, the organization One Million Moms has taken up arms to protest a small aspect of pop culture. This time, the moms are against the new Disney Channel animated series, The Owl House. Full of supernatural themes and powerful women, this show has been deemed inappropriate and even demonic. But what exactly does One Million Moms do, and should we be worried that their latest campaign will be successful? Probably not: The group mostly goes after relatively insignificant pop culture moments, and their voices usually remain unheard (or just ignored).

One Million Moms is an organization that, according to their website, aims to "give moms an impact with the decision-makers and let them know [they] are upset with the messages they are sending [their] children and the values (or lack of them) they are pushing." A division of the American Family Association, One Million Moms believes that popular culture is "exploiting" children by exposing them to impure values, such as cursing, witchcraft, and the acceptance of the LGBT community. They have become known for protesting everything from fast food commercials, to progressive companies, to films.

Their most recent campaign targets a new animated series on Disney Channel, but this is not the first time the organization has taken issue with Disney. Recently, they launched a protest against the feature Toy Story 4, for having lesbian characters. This effort was unsuccessful, as the film went on the win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Before that, the group went after The Muppets in 2015, arguing that the reboot featured "sexually charged jokes" which were inappropriate for children.

Disney Channel's new animated series, The Owl House, follows a girl named Luz who falls into a supernatural world, where witches and magic abound, and decides to train to become a with. The series has already been picked up for a second season, but that has not stopped One Million Moms from trying to protest it. Ignoring the fact that not everyone shares their worldview and that there is obviously a market for such a show, One Million Moms has tried to get it canceled for its demonic characters and support of witchcraft as a "tool to fight evil".

Have They Been Successful inThe Past

One Million Moms has protested a wide array of companies, advertising campaigns, and causes. While they do experience some degree of success every once in a while, such as when Kit Kat replaced Missy Elliot's "sexual" song "Work It" with their own jingle in a commercial, they haven't made a ton of significant changes. Their protests against Disney in the past have been largely ignored, and their recent campaign against the Hallmark channel turned into a convoluted, and ultimately unsuccessful, boycott. For fans of Disney Channel, then, things are looking good: The Owl House likely won't be going anywhere soon.
