Ne-Yo stated in the podcast, “It’s slowly but surely becoming public knowledge that myself and my wife have decided to go ahead and get a divorce."

The singer-songwriter alluded to some serious drama taking place, calling it "the final straw" in the couple's troubled relationship.

Rumors of the split first arose when the blog site The Jasmine Brand had reported that Smith ended the relationship and was moving towards filing for divorce from the R&B crooner.

“Crystal left him. She’s had enough,” a source told the site. They even mentioned that Smith would begin the divorce process pretty “soon.”

Prior to the split, there was speculated that the World of Dance judge had been unfaithful to his wife while working on the series. Sources claimed that Ne-Yo had cheated on Smith with one of the dancers from the show.

At the same, the singer denied the rumors and claiming that he and Smith were in a good place in their marriage.

Despite Ne-Yo's denials, the couple seemed to have goe through a rough 2019 in a New Year's Eve Instagram post.

He captioned a lovely shot of the couple, "Headed into the new year wit a RIDER. 2019 had its bumps and bruises, yea sure."

"But it’s not about the difficulty, it’s about ones ability to realize when something is worth fighting for and ones willingness to push thru to the potential greatness of a situation," he continued. "There no such thing as perfect, a lesson we both have had to learn and lock in. But perfect for each other is a real thing."

Rumors ramped up as Smith posted a funny reply to the lyrics of Ne-Yo's new song as she and a friend giggled and made a small lyric change.

After her comment section became a hotbed, she commented under the post that she and her soon-to-be-ex-husband were on good terms despite their split. Like the singer, she confirmed despite their split the couple was making co-parenting their main priority as well as calling Ne-an "incredible" father.

Smith began posting videos of her with Black Ink Chicago star Ryan Henry hanging out during NBA All-Star Weekend on social media.

While the couple's split is amicable, Ne-Yo decided not to ill of the mother of his two sons.

“It’s not a sad thing, it’s more of a us realizing…long story short, I’m never gonna talk bad about her. I’m not that person,” he added. “There’s nothing bad to say about her. She’s a fantastic woman. She’s the mother of my children and she’s always gonna be that.”

When it came to their relationship, he alluded to their past affecting their marriage.

He stated, “She’s got demons just like everybody else, just like me. We realize that our demons don’t mesh and until both of us get a hold of our personal demons it just makes things difficult.”

While many marriages in Hollywood end in a fiery crash, the couple seems intent upon staying friends and doing what's best for their children.
