When Kim Kardashian West announced that she would be pursuing a law degree, most people instantly wrote her off as either someone who was incapable of accomplishing such a feat or as someone who was simply indulging in a short-lived hobby for media attention.

However, since she began her journey of working as an apprentice for a law firm in San Fransisco, people have begun to take the reality television star a little more serious, especially with the legal work she's already been able to accomplish, despite not yet having taken the California Bar.

In May 2019, Kardashian West sat down with Vogue Magazine to discuss her interest in becoming an attorney, with the notion that she had bigger plans for her life, other than just being a reality television star.

For the KWW Beauty founder, her inspiration was rooted in something much larger than herself. It emanated from her experience with helping advocate for Alice Marie Johnson, the African American woman who was given an unjustly long prison sentence for her involvement in a drug trafficking ring.

While the experience helping Johsnon was, without a doubt, beneficial for her learning some of the ins and outs of law, she still acknowledges that she has so much to learn.

"I need to know more. I would say what I had to say, about the human side and why this is so unfair. But I had attorneys with me who could back that up with all the facts of the case," Kardashian West said to Vogue. "It’s never one person who gets things done; it’s always a collective of people, and I’ve always known my role, but I just felt like I wanted to be able to fight for people who have paid their dues to society."

So far, Kardashian West has wrapped up one year of her internship with the California-based law firm, meaning that she has another three to go, but she's excited for the next several years and the ability to continue to learn.

Speaking with Good Morning America, she shared her thoughts on the experience, thus far. "I’m about to take the baby bar in a few months, which is a necessity in order to continue on for the next three years in California. So it feels good, having finished year one. It’s very hard!" she said.

Kardashian West also shared that what she's learned in her apprenticeship is immediately applicable to her life, at least when it comes to understanding contracts. And for the KUWTK star, she feels as though attending law school years ago would not have meant as much to her as what she's learning now.

"I read over every contract now," she said. "It’s what I’m studying and it makes a lot of sense, now, to me. Had I gone to school years ago when I should have, it wouldn’t have meant as much as it does to me, and I wouldn’t have been as into it as I am."
