'Stranger Things' Season 4 Teaser Reveals Hopper's Fate

Netflix
By Robin Burks

Netflix just dropped a new trailer for season 4 of Stranger Things that finally reveals what happened to Hopper (David Harbour). At the end of season 3, Hopper was considered dead after the explosion he and Joyce (Winona Ryder) caused when they switched off the Russian's machine. However, the new teaser shows Hopper alive and well and, apparently, working in a labor camp, presumably somewhere in Russia. There is no indication of how he survived, but he's looking pretty good for a presumed-dead man.

What the teaser tells us about season 4

Although this teaser is short, it does give us some idea of where season 4 of Stranger Things is going. Obviously, it's headed back to Russia, and it's even possible that Hopper and Joyce's efforts were for naught and the Russians are still trying to open a portal to the Upside Down, which we all know would lead to some very bad things. This also means that there will probably be some kind of rescue effort for Hopper, at least after the rest of the gang learns that he's alive.

What we also know about season 4 is that the show's writers have a very specific theme in mind for season 4 of the series. First, the writers took to Instagram to reveal the title of the first episode, which is "The Hellfire Club." This could reference an exclusive and immoral high society club that dates back to the 18th Century, perhaps indicating a new Stranger Things plot point. The writers have also revealed that movies as diverse as Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey and The Fisher King were strong influences for season 4.

Although Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on Netflix, there are indications that season 4 might be its last. Back in 2017, the showrunners, the Duffer Brothers, have previously said that the show would only have four seasons. The show's actors have also hinted that the series would soon come to an end, noting that the story is coming to its conclusion. Many believe that season 4 will have two parts to complete the story of Hawkins and the Upside Down.

When will season 4 air?

Season 3 of Stranger Things aired in summer 2019, with Netflix announcing that the series would get a season 4 later that year, in September. Rumors point to the season already being in production, with the cast being spied recently on set. The writers posted a tweet with the year 2020, with a comment that "we're not in Hawkins anymore." With filming supposedly lasting through until August, a 2020 release would probably be closer to the end of the year.
