While the Oscars was an eventful night, one moment fans can't stop talking about is the uncomfortable looking hug shared between Salma Hayek and Eminem. Despite the apparent discomfort, both parties confirmed that they enjoyed and were grateful for the hug. So how did it all go down? According to Variety, Salma Hayek breaks down the incident play by play in an Instagram post made yesterday following the Oscars. Hayek explains that it happened after Eminem's impromptu performance of his hit "Lose Yourself."

“In these pictures it might look like @Eminem and I are best friends,” she wrote in the caption of a picture of she and Eminem hugging. “But what really happened is as he was walking offstage and I was getting ready to walk onstage, I was so shocked to see him that I spilled water all over him."

Hayek immediately felt bad about her clumsy moment so she decided the best way to apologize for the incident was to give the rapper a hug.

“If you examine our faces, I look mortified and he looks terrified of me,” she continued. “As I was trying to wipe it off I impulsively hugged him and I said ‘Nice to meet you Eminem- I’m a HUGE fan!’ because I AM!”

"But I was so disappointed that I made such a fool of myself in front of him... and then I read this [swipe right] in @rollingstone," Hayek wrote referring to an interview with Eminem. "Eminem you’re the greatest!!! If you want to read the entire article with #Eminem please see my link in bio."

Eminem explained in a separate interview why he decided to break out the 17-year-old song at the Oscars.

“I kinda figured maybe since I didn’t get a chance to do it [in 2003], maybe it would be cool,” Eminem told Variety. “Back then, I never even thought that I had a chance to win, and we had just performed ‘Lose Yourself’ on the Grammys with the Roots a couple of weeks before the Oscars, so we didn’t think it was a good idea.

And also, back at that time, the younger me didn’t really feel like a show like that would understand me,” Eminem added.

As far as his reaction to the incident, Eminem felt a lot less awkwardly about it than Salma had thought. When Rolling Stone had asked how he felt about it, he was certainly glad it happened. It was the highlight of his Oscars performance.

When asked if he enjoyed the Oscar performance overall he replied, “Absolutely, I got to hug Salma Hayek!”
