When Jennifer Lopez took the stage during the 2020 Super Bowl halftime performance, she came out looking like the pop queen that she is. Everything about J-Lo was flawless, including her makeup, which featured a gorgeous smoky eye, fantastic highlighted hair and a body that would make women half her age envious. But although everything looked relatively simple to viewers watching at home, J-Lo's beauty regime that day took a total of ten hours. Yes, that makeup look she sported was part of an all-day affair.

She might be "Jenny From The Block," but J-Lo's makeup artist, Scott Barnes, had a specific mood in mind when creating her Super Bowl look. In an interview with Elle, Barnes admitted that his inspiration was mostly taken from the 1990s, particularly the supermodel look of the time. He said:

"My vibe for this was Versace supermodel, the '90s. It was very Peter Lindbergh shoots with the skirt, the leather, and the hats. And I was like, "OMG, this reminds me of Linda [Evangelista], it could be Christy [Turlington], and all of the girls." I wanted to give the nod to that, and that's where the makeup inspiration came from."

An early start

J. Lo's Super Bowl beauty routine started at 10:30 AM that morning. While she was still doing some rehearsing at her house, her beauty team did her nails and hair before starting on her makeup. However, it wasn't finished at 3 p.m., when J-Lo needed to go to the stadium. Barnes and his team got a police escort to the stadium to start working on the makeup again around 4:30 p.m. for an hour before J-Lo needed to do a quick runthrough of her performance. Barnes kept working on her makeup right up until she took the stage for the Half-Time show, which also featured Shakira.

J. Lo's flawless Super Bowl look came from a variety of makeup products. Barnes dished on exactly what he used for those who would like to try J. Lo's smokey eye look at home. Barnes used "a ton of products," including Marc Jacobs bronzer, as well as his new lip glosses that should be coming out soon. J. Lo was wearing Marc Jacobs eyeliner, too, and Barnes praised that particular product for keeping the smoky eye "soft," saying that it "worked so well."

J. Lo rocked the house

J. Lo rocked the house at the Super Bowl, and part of it had everything to do with her 10-hour beauty routine. However, it was her raw talent and solid dance moves that impressed everyone the most. J. Lo even brought out her daughter, Emme, to join her onstage, with Emme proving that she has just as much talent as her famous mother. The double team J-Lo and Shakira performance would convince almost anyone that this was one unforgettable Super Bowl Half-Time performance.
