Music fans across the pond received a big surprise on February 12th, because Taylor Swift attended the NME Awards!

The Wednesday evening ceremony was held at the O2 Academy Brixton in London. In case you don't know, NME stands for "New Musical Express." Although all of the awards are given genuinely, the show is known for its tongue-in-cheek approach, giving out prizes for things such as "Worst Record," "Villain of the Year," and of course, the "Godlike Genius Award." We also love how their trophies are very on-brand.

You've probably seen them before - you know, the ones that are shaped like middle fingers. During her acceptance speech for the "Best Solo Act In The World" award, Tay Tay commented on the unique design.

"It's amazing to have a matching set. I'm honored," she said, referring to her previous win in 2016 (see above). Since she couldn't be there in person at the time, Taylor appeared with a video message to accept the award:

"I gotta be honest with you about this [trophy]...when you first open up the box, this feels a little aggressive and then you get used to it."

This was Swifty's first time out and about at a public event since the premiere of her Miss Americana documentary at Sundance Film Festival last month. It was alleged that she might have been slated for a performance at the GRAMMY Awards (held just three days after the premiere), but nothing was ever confirmed.

Another thing that had fans all riled up was the fact that Taylor did not attend last night's NME Awards alone - she brought her London Boy!

The 30-year-old singer has been in a longterm relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn for almost four years. One lucky fan in attendance at Wednesday's show even saw Taylor and Joe share a quick kiss - and they got it on video!

Alwyn, 28, put out four films in 2018 - Operation Finale, Boy Erased, Mary Queen of Scots, and most notably, The Favourite. He co-starred in 2019's Harriet and makes a brief (but sweet!) appearance in his girlfriend's new Netflix documentary.

The pair also made a rare public appearance in January 2020 at the Golden Globe Awards, where, while some of Alwyn's work was nominated as a whole, Swift's tune "Beautiful Ghosts" was also nominated in the "Best Original Song" category.

During her time onstage in London, Taylor made sure to poke fun at the audience.

"This is my first time at the NME Awards, and like, I just feel like everyone here is so shy, so reserved. Are you guys having any fun tonight? Are you going to come out of your shells at all?"

"Oh, wait no," she added. "This is like the craziest award show I've ever been to."

Congrats, gurl!
