Dwayne Wade's second-oldest child has been making waves after coming out a few years ago.

“Be true, and don’t really care what the stereotypical way of being you is,” Zaya says in the clip. “I know it can get tough, definitely, but I think you push through and you be the best you.”

After posting the announcement, Union went on to give thanks to the family's supporters as Zaya begins transitioning.

Unio wrote, "Huge huge huge THANK YOU to everyone whose dms I slid into, friends, & family who provided information, resources, love & encouragement."

The actress, along with Wade, has received mixed reactions for their support of Zaya's new life as supporters on both sides of the issue have voiced their opinions of the 12-year-old began transitioning from male to female within the past few years.

A while ago, the retired NBA player made an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show where he talked about his 12-year-old child coming out to him and Union as transgender. He spoke on how Zaya made the decision to change her name and wanting to be referred to by she/her pronouns.

He stated, “So once Zaya, our 12-year-old, came home and said, ‘Hey, I want to talk to you guys. I think going forward I’m ready to live my truth. I want to be referenced as she and her, I would love for you guys to call me Zaya.’”

Both Wade and Union have been very supportive as Zaya began to live her life as a transgender female.

Her brother Zaire wrote a heartfelt message on Instagram.

"Man, I remember bugging my mom as a kid telling her I wanted a brother so bad. I was the only child looking for company and someone to look after and take care of," Wade wrote. "I have been blessed to have my best friend, Zaya with me for 12 years."

He continued, " We did everything together...we fought, we played, we laughed and we cried. But the one thing we never did was leave each other behind... I’ve told you that I would lay my life down to make sure you are ten toes down and happy on this earth."

He added, "I don’t care what they think Z, you are my best friend and I love you kid, and if it means anything, just know there’s no love lost on this side."

In June of last year, Wade spoke with Variety about supporting a child's decision and all the doubt and hate that comes along with the decision.

“I’m very uneasy about accolades that come from supporting my kids or the negativity that comes from it,” the former NBA star. “I’m doing what every parent has to do. Once you bring kids into this world, you become unselfish.”

“It’s my job to be their role model, to be their voice in my kids’ lives, to let them know you can conquer the world,” he continued. “So go and be your amazing self, and we’re going to sit back and just love you.”

Since Zaya has begun transitioning, Wade and Union have been a prime example of being supportive parents as a child grows into their truth.

The couple, as well as the 12-year-old, have faced an incredible amount of praise and backlash from the public as well as the media for Zaya's transition from male to female.

Over the next few years, Zaya along with her family will hopefully be able to let people into her transition without any judgment or disdain from the public.
