It takes courage to admit one’s sexualty to the world. Recently, Dwyane Wade revealed the moment his daughter Zaya came out as Transgender. The moment was heartfelt between the father-daughter duo and even led to added support from celebs like Wendy Williams. The 12 year-old is wise beyond her years for coming out. Though some progress has been made on sexuality and acceptance, society still has a long way to go. Zaya’s journey to self-discovery proves that in time society can improve.
Because that's what we spoonfeed kids from the day they are born.
Let Zaya be. Her knowing her gender identity at 12 is no "agenda."

Dwyane Wade, like any good father, stands firmly behind his daughter’s decision to be a Transgender girl. On the Ellen DeGeneres Show the former basketball player discussed what it meant being a good parent to his kids. “It’s our jobs to listen to our children and give them the best advice we can give them. That doesn’t change because of sexuality.” Wade clearly cares about his kids and more importantly Zaya’s choice to share her true self with the world. Good for him!
This is beautiful. The Wades continue to show us what it looks like to actively love and support queer children. Everyone needs to be taking notice. https://t.co/F3IVPxg1RA

Zaya’s coming-out confession, however, was easier than doing the actual research. As the parents of a newly transgender daughter, Wade and wife Gabriella Union sought help from a few friends in FX’s POSE cast. The couple reached out to the show due to its coverage over New York’s African-American and Latino LGBTQ community. Many of the cast members in the show are non-binary and transgender people, a perfect place for Wade and Union to start. The couple are certainly getting proactive in their daughters future, as all good parents should.
Among the immense support of her parents, Zaya’s brother Zaire shared a touching tribute to his sister via Instagram. Big bro reminisced on the time the two spent together growing up and his yearning for a brother, before wrapping up the speech with “I don’t care what anyone thinks, I got you Z. Just know that there’s love on this side.” Zaire is a great older brother and clearly loves his sister. It’s one thing for the parents to be supportive of Zaya but entirely another when the whole family gives love. The 12-year-old is going to grow up strong.
It seems like Wade and Union have done a great job raising little Zaya. Wendy Williams definitely was moved by the 12 year-old’s twitter video, even to the point where the gossip tv host shed a tear or two. After showing a clip of the video on her show, Williams commented that Zaya is a girl who already has her life figured out and handles herself well. “People that don’t understand, don’t say anything,” the talk host said on air. It seems like Zaya’s message resonated with Wendy Williams on a deep and personal level.

Other celebs like Williams showered Wade’s daughter with love and support. Stars by the likes of music producer Timberland, and actresses Kerry Washington and Jessica Alba commended the preteen for her bravery. There are several celeb kids that have journeyed down the same path as Zaya as well. Brother and sister-duo Jaden and Willow Smith both identify with the LGBTQ community. Even Charlie Theron’s adopted daughter, Jackson, came out as a Transgender girl. If Zaya ever needed a collective group of friends to rely on, she could certainly rely on them.
Hi Zaya !! Beautiful spirit . Beautiful words . https://t.co/fVsT47Ri2X
