Demi Lovato fully admitted to going dark on social media following her headline-making performance of the National Anthem at the 2020 Super Bowl. Fans of the “Sorry Not Sorry” singer are likely aware that the 27-year-old got herself some new ink at the end of 2019, but Demi had yet to take to social media to officially showcase it.
The ink has been displayed, alongside an explanation of what the new back tattoo means to Demi. The update has also been racking up insane kinds of likes.
Demi’s Tuesday update came in two parts. The first showed the singer’s back photographed in black and white. The focal point was clearly the star’s new ink, with fans seeing the custom angel with broken wings being lifted up by doves.
A quick swipe to the right showed Demi in color and undergoing the tattoo process. Here, the brunette was leaning forwards while tattoo artist Alessandro Capozzi worked on her back.
The post marks the first from Lovato since Super Bowl 54.
Demi took to her caption to tell fans more.
“I recently went dark on social media in preparation for my Grammy and Super Bowl performances but while I was off socials I got this incredibly meaningful tattoo done by @alessandro_capozzi,” she began.
“Getting tatted by him was an experience I’ve never had before.. no idea what I was going to get done, I told him about my life and where I was at in that moment and we created a combination on images that best symbolized the spiritual awakening I was having,” Demi continued.
Demi has, indeed, shed the darkness from her life. A very public battle against substances reached breaking point in 2018 as the star was hospitalized following a near-fatal drug overdose, with Demi taking her time to recover at her own pace.
“Having a fallen angel being lifted by 3, pure, angelic doves (the Holy trinity) as her inner light is being guided by a higher consciousness, and the disintegration of her dark wings was representing the darkness I was shedding,” the singer added.
Demi’s ink may not be brand new for those who’d spotted the work posted to Alessandro’s Instagram, but it’s likely that a fair few of the star’s followers hadn’t yet seen it.
Likes came in fast for this post – over 600,000 were clocked in one hour.
One comment racked up some likes – unsurprising.
“Like this comment if this should be the album artwork,” the fan wrote.
“Sis this tattoo is everything,” another said.
“Omg!! This is beautiful!” a third added.
Demi has over 20 tattoos. The singer is, of course, not alone in making headlines for getting inked. Fellow singer Ariana Grande made headlines for messing up her “7 rings” tattoo, with 27-year-old pop star Miley Cyrus also having fronted media outlets for getting inked with new boyfriend Cody Simpson.
