Speaking on Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dwyane Wade, the basketball star opened up about his child who turned out to be transgender. The star lives with 12-year-old Zaya, and his wife Gabrielle Union. Despite Zaya being transgender, Union, who is not the child’s birth mother has all along been joining hands with her husband to support Zaya.
Dwyane Split with Zaya’s mom, retaining custody of the kid whose original gender was a boy named Zion. Zion, however, later asked to be named Zaya after becoming transgender.
Wade is obviously, the best dad his kids can ever have. He took custody of their two children following his split with their mom, depicting his love for the kids. He went ahead to remarry and welcomed more kids with the new wife Gabrielle, with whom they share parenting roles for all the children.
Speaking on Ellen’s show, the athlete was not shy to talk about his child, terming him and Gabrielle as proud parents of one of the LGBTQ+ community.
The proud allies, as Wade put it, take their roles and responsibilities with much seriousness. He went ahead to give what seemed as an educative lecture, saying when a child gets back home with a question, an issue, or anything else, it is the parents’ responsibility to listen, and provide the most informative response as possible.
Wade then added that the parents’ role does not change when sexuality comes into the question as he continued to narrate the fateful day Zion came home with the transgender news.
Wade received Zion’s news in what seems a no surprise and he instead probably surprised her with a supportive reaction. As he revealed, he and Gabrielle took the initiative to gather as much information as possible, all in the hope of rendering the child the perfect opportunity to be herself. Wade opened up about his words to Zaya, telling her that she was a leader and had a chance to speak out.
The star recently clapped back at trolls who were on Zaya’s crop top and nail polish.
I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile! ✌🏾

During the Miami Beach Pride Festival, Wade was unable to attend the event as he was set to be at the Miami Heat Game. Gabrielle, however, was at the occasion alongside Zaya and her elder brother Zaire, 18.
Gabrielle also had with her their one-year-old daughter, Kaavia. The 47-year-old actress and her stepson later shared images of the big day on their Instagram stories, with Wade reposting his entire family supporting one of their own. Wade also shares a son, Xavier, with Aja Metoyer.
