You may have thought that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were done with their duties as members of the royal family, but as it turns out, that isn’t quite true. In fact, the couple plans to return to the U.K. for their last round of official royal commitments in March, The Sunday Times reports.
The couple will then return to Canada, where they’ve been living since they announced their plans to step back as official members of the royal family.
Archie, the couple’s young son, will also attend the Commonwealth Service for Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey in London on March 9. According to a source in Entertainment Tonight, the couple still plans to attend events like Commonwealth Day when they’ve been invited by the queen.
According to The Times, the queen is more relaxed about Harry and Meghan’s departure than many expected. “If that’s what they want, if they want to go, we must let them go,” she is reported to have told friends.
Following their announcement that they would be stepping back as members of the royal family in January, the couple has been living on Vancouver Island. Following the announcement, Meghan remained in Canada with Archie while Harry dealt with the fallout from their decision with his family.
As part of the arrangements being made for the couple, they will lose their royal titles and have also expressed a desire to become financially independent. Reporting suggests that the couple won’t have trouble earning for themselves.
In fact, the couple recently attended a summit in Miami hosted by JP Morgan where Harry was the featured speaker. The Duke of Sussex was reportedly paid $1 million to deliver the speech, where he discussed his relationship with his mother and his decision to leave the royal family.
That’s just the most recent example of the way the couple can monetize their fame. Many have suggested that they’ll attempt to replicate the model set out by the Obamas, producing projects that are important to them.
While in Miami, Harry and Meghan also had time to grab dinner with Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez. “Harry and Meghan got on really well with Jennifer and Alex, and spent some time chatting with them over dinner,” one witness said in Page Six. “JLo was overheard inviting the couple and their baby Archie to her and Alex’s house in Miami to spend time with them and their kids.”
They may still have some royal engagements left, but the couple seems to be enjoying their post-royal lives.
