Rumer Willis Praises Demi Moore & Bruce Willis’ Co-parenting Relationship: ‘I'm Incredibly Grateful’

Rumer Willis opens up about her famous parents.

"I'm so grateful that we have all really strived to have really deep and meaningful and honest communication," the actress, 33, told People.

She added, “In any relationship — whether it's with a partner, whether it's with your family or your friends — that being honest and just really communicating well and having good tools for communication, I think, is so unbelievably important."

During the interview, she also talked about her parents Bruce Willis, 66, and Demi Moore, 58, and their co-parenting relationship.

"I'm incredibly grateful that both of my parents have made such an effort my entire life that I never felt like I had to choose between them," Rumer said. "I have a lot of friends who grew up with parents who got divorced at a young age and I watched their parents, like, pit them against each other or have to choose between holidays.

She continued, "And I didn't have to do that, and I feel so grateful that my parents made it such a priority that we could be a family, even though it looked different."

Bruce and Demi were married from 1987 to 2000. Together, they have three kids, Rumer as the eldest, followed by Scout, 30, and Tallulah, 27.

The “Die Hard” actor tied the knot with Emma Heming in 2009, and they have two daughters Mabel, 9, and Evelyn, 7.

Despite being separated, Bruce has maintained a friendly relationship with the “Striptease” actress. The latter has also been amicable with Bruce’s wife. In fact, the exes, Emma, and their kids spent quarantining together in Idaho during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I think it was just amazing to be together and have so much time, even though we all live in California and live relatively close to each other," Rumer explained. "Just to be able to really spend quality time and be outside and be in our family home and be not only with my sisters and my mom and their partners, but my little sisters and my dad and my stepmom.”

She continued, "It was a time that I, like, in a lot of ways, even though it was really challenging for the world, I am deeply grateful for it because I don't know if we would have gotten that time together otherwise."

The relationship that Rumer has with her family helped her in so many ways, including her battle with smoking.

As per People, Rumer started smoking in her late teens but has since stopped from the habit for a few years now. The “Empire” star revealed that her family helped her get through the difficult times.

"I think it helps, especially when you first start, when you're not around it as much because then you see people doing it and you're suddenly like, 'Why did I quit? You should be doing this too,'" Rumer said. "I'm very grateful that in my family, we have a support system for many of those things in our lives."
