Last night's Oscar red carpet looks were incredible, definitely homages to avant-garde moments. It seems that the Met Ball has inspired awards season looks to be big bigger and riskier for the public eye. Along with billowing skirts, diamond-encrusted anything seems to be on-trend for the wealthy and famous artists on display.

Billy Porter, of course, was a fashion commentator for the nominees and presenters. With plenty of spectacles, here are some of last night's best looks for the Academy Awards.

Billy Porter is the king of red carpet looks, and his ensemble for the Oscars was no exception. An ode to the Royal Family, his stylist Sam Ratelle said the voluminous piece was inspired by Kensington Palace. Lo and behold, they got Giles Deacon to make Porter's look, one of the mastermind designers for Kate and Pippa Middleton.

The result is a billowing skirt with a fresco style pattern print, a gold feathered bodice, and platform Jimmy Choo buckle shoes.

Kristen Wiig

Lovingly nicknamed the 'lasagna' dress on Twitter, Kristen Wiig served Italian delicacy at the Oscars, showing a little sideboob action for all her fans. A red Valentino gown with dramatic ruffles down the waist, she was a vision.

She accessorized with black opera gloves, giving color juxtaposition that makes her stand out in the red carpet crowd. Not to mention, her riffing with Maya Rudolph before presenting the award for best production design proved once again that she's hilarious and sexy.

Janelle Monae

Academy Award nominee and singing partner to Billy Porter, Janelle Monae stunned on the Oscar red carpet with a sparkling silver Ralph Lauren dress. Hooded with a slit on the back, Monae impressed rug cutters alike, serving magical wizard realness.

To everyone's shock, the dress was covered in 168,000 Swarovski crystals, probably costing more than the average person's...anything. Keeping in touch with the diamond theme, Monae wore a diamond choker and thick diamond rings on her fingers, to match with the diamonds on her nails.

Natalie Portman

Natalie Portman is no stranger to Oscar red carpet looks, but this year's choice had a touching sentiment wrapped up in her unforgettable dress. On top of her custom Dior gown, she wore a cape embroidered with the names of women directors that demonstrated great skill in 2020 but were not recognized by the Oscars.

Portman has always been vocal about the lack of women nominated for best directors at most awards shows. Portman shined as she walked in the black and gold ensemble.
