Floyd Mayweather has made a ton of great choices inside and outside the ring that have allowed him to rack up an exuberant amount of money. Yet, throughout his life he’s also made plenty of questionable decisions that have landed him in all sorts of legal trouble with some jail stints mixed in. His judgment seemed to be clouded once again as he literally walked into this particular issue for seemingly no reason whatsoever. If he takes the picture and moves on, nobody ever realizes this moment even happened.
What Went Down
Floyd was approached by a fan who recognized him at an NBA game in LA. The fan wanted to take a picture with him. Up to that point, everything seemed pretty standard. This is probably something that happens to Mayweather at least a couple of times a day. Floyd then sees that the teen who is asking for a picture has painted nails, and literally blurts out,
“You got painted nails, I don’t take pictures with guys with no painted nails.”
What Floyd probably didn’t realize was that this whole scene was being caught on tape by the same fan that he had just dissed.
The Fan Turned Into A Breaking News Reporter
After being turned down by Floyd, and seemingly being brushed to the side by entourage the disgruntled fan quickly turned into a breaking news reporter, later in his video saying,
“Floyd’s a homophobe. You guys saw that first. Floyd doesn’t want to take a picture with me because my nails are painted. Bro, really?”
From what we can see from the video that was first obtained by TMZ Sports, the fan didn’t approach Floyd in a disrespectful manner at all. He didn’t even try extremely hard to pursue Floyd for a photo opportunity after the comment. That may also have been because Floyd’s entourage quickly closed in.
Floyd’s Rep Were Quick To Comment
TMZ reached out to Floyd Mayweather’s reps after obtaining the video from the fan. Who by the way, is going to need some retouching on those nails. That black coloring is fading that’s not how Gene Simmons does it! In any case, Floyd’s reps were quick to point out that Mayweather is by no means, “homophobic”. Although this isn’t necessarily the first time that he’s accused of the exact same thing. His reps mentioned that he was in a hurry and that was the only reason why he didn’t stop for the picture with the fan.
Using Homophobic Slurs Against Conor McGregor
The last time that Floyd found himself in hot water over a similar issue was in the build up to his fight with UFC star Conor McGregor. In one of the presser leading up to the fight Mayweather shouted numerous profanities at McGregor telling him,
“You punk, you f—-t, you ho,”
If we were to look back at some other press conferences that he held before his fights we would probably find more homophobic insults. That type of talk was pretty standard in the boxing community in the 90s when Floyd was coming up. These days though, you can’t be offending people for that. Just ask Dave Chappelle, he’ll tell you this is a community you don’t want to mess with!
