The American dancing competition TV series "Dancing with the Stars" started on ABC on June 1, 2005. The American version of the British show "Strictly Come Dancing" has several other variations.

Often, celebrities are paired with professional dancers in this program. Each pair competes against the other for judges' points and audience votes by performing a series of dances.

Derek Hough was one of DWTS' most popular professional dancers. With six mirrorball trophy wins over 17 seasons, he has done dozens of famous routines on the ABC reality television series. He is also one of the most recognized pros on the show.

Hough made a significant statement ahead of the show's "Horror Night" that had fans of the show freaking out. Songs and dances based on well-known horror films and villains will be featured in the series. So, what's the big announcement that has the fans so psyched?

Derek Hough's Early Life And Career

Derek Bruce Hough was born on May 17, 1985. He grew up in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City, as the fourth of five children. His sisters include; Sharee, Marabeth, Katherine, and Julianne.

His father was chairman of the Utah Republican Party twice. It's safe to say dancing is in his genes, as his grandparents were dancers as well.

Hough is a professional Latin ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor, and vocalist from the United States. He first competed in the ABC dancing competition "Dancing with the Stars" from 2007 to 2016. He won the show six times and became a record-breaker with his celebrity partners.

Then, he was nominated for eleven Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography for his efforts and won it three times. Hough also starred in the stage performance of Novello Theatre's West End premiere of "Footloose." He had a recurring part in the ABC musical drama "Nashville" and was featured in "Make Your Move."

He Became A Judge On 'DWTS'

After years of being judged by them, Hough can now call Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli his colleagues.

In 2016, he announced his departure from the DWTS ballroom. However, he didn't abandon the world of television. He became a judge on NBC's "World of Dance," but returned to DWTS in 2020.

ABC announced that Hough would serve as a judge for the season 30 premiere. "He'll take the place of Len Goodman, who is unable to judge this season owing to coronavirus travel limitations; Nonetheless, while in the United Kingdom, Goodman will be active "in a different role."

After the announcement, Hough reacted by saying, "This program has been and will always be tremendously meaningful to me." "Coming back feels like coming home, and I can't wait to get back into the ballroom."

What Was His Big Announcement?

Being the fourth judge on DWTS wasn't Hough's "big" news. The 36-year-old revealed another shocking news that riled up DWTS fans and viewers.

"I've truly liked being a judge on DWTS," Hough wrote on Instagram, "but on Monday, I get out from behind the desk and hit the dance floor." While he didn't go into detail about his performance in this post, fans were ecstatic at the thought of seeing Hough use his dance skills on the show once more.

Fellow judge Carrie Ann Inaba was also excited, as she wrote, "It's about time. Derek, I adore it when you dance! Yes, we all do! I'm excited to see what kind of magic you'll bring on Monday. And look at this outfit! "This is fantastic."

Fans weren't left out, as they took to the post's comment section to express their joy. One user said, "When Derek dances, he brightens my Mondays!" I miss seeing him and his teammates compete every week."

Hough's Anticipated Spooky Performance

DWTS missed Halloween by one day. So the show prepared for Monday's Horror Night six days early.

In an Instagram video shared by the show, Hough said, "We have an amazing routine prepared for you all." He added that the show would be filled with "love, passion, and, most importantly, fear."

Hough also revealed what fans should expect from this exciting performance in a different Instagram picture released by "Dancing with the Stars."

The last ten couples will perform routines based on horror films. Some of the anticipated features are "The Vampire Diaries," "IT," "Salvatore Brothers," Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog," and many more.
