It's been a very long time since legendary news anchor Barbara Walters made a public appearance. Reportedly, the 90-year-old Walters rarely even agrees to having visitors.

Former 'View' co-host Jenny McCarthy recently announced on an episode of her SiriusXM radio show, that she had received an update from former co-star, Sherri Shepherd, but was optimistic.

McCarthy admitted that the famous journalist was "not doing great" at the moment, adding, "I heard that she's (Barbara Walters) in a place of not doing great, and I just talked to Sherri Shepherd about it and we're sending some cards over to her."

Rumors of Walters' frail health have been swirling around for years. During the May 10, 2010 episode of 'The View,' Barbara Walters announced that she would be undergoing open heart surgery to replace a faulty aortic valve and she knew for quite some time that she was suffering from aortic valve stenosis, even though she was symptom-free.

in a statement released on May 14, 2010, Walters' spokeswoman Cindi Berger stated: "The procedure to fix the faulty heart valve "went well, and the doctors are very pleased with the outcome."

In 2015, another former 'View' co-host, Rosie O'Donnell, shared her own update. Rosie revealed that Barbara Walters was not really speaking to many people as of much lately, adding, "I think she’s a wonderful woman, and it's hard to age in America, never mind if you’re internationally famous."

O'Donnell's comments echoed that of a source who in the previous month spoke to Radar Online, alleging Walters’ friends have spoken to her in more than two years. "They're really heartbroken about it, and don’t understand why they can’t visit her," the source reported.

Exit The View

Barbara Walters came under fire in April 2019 upon the release of tell-all "Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View."

Even Jenny McCarthy claimed to a reporter that Barbara Walters yelled at her for seven minutes about autism once. She also alleged that the executive producer mimicked dressing like her and she was forced to change clothes if she did not compliment what her boss was wearing. “I was a human Barbie doll,” McCarthy claimed.

Elsewhere in the book, are claims that Meredith Vieria, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulous and Joy Behar butted heads with Walters. “She rained on their parade,” producer Jessica Stedman Guff states. “It was like a bunch of sixth graders throwing s–t around the room and then the teacher walks in.”

Barbara Walters began her illustrious career on 'The Today Show' during the early 1960s as a writer and segment producer covering women's interest stories. As a result of her popularity, Walters became the first female to co-host the program in 1974.

A broadcast pioneer and trendsetter, she went on to become the first female co-anchor of a network evening news program, alongside Harry Reasoner on the ABC Evening News.

Although Walters has not been seen in public in years, her reps have since denied reports on her health, even admitting they see her "every two to three weeks" and "she's doing just fine."
