The “CBS This Morning” anchor came under fire this week after she asked Leslie how the 2003 rape accusations against Bryant affected his legacy. The charges were dropped and he was never found guilty of anything, so many people found he topic inappropriate.
One celebrity who spoke out against King was rapper Snoop Dogg. He posted a video to Instagram in which he seemed to threaten her.
“We expect more from you, Gayle,” he said. “Funky dog head bitch… respect the family and backoff. Before we come get you.”
This is despicable. Gayle King is one of the most principled, fair and tough journalists alive. Snoop, back the **** off. You come for @GayleKing, you come against an army. You will lose, and it won’t be pretty. https://t.co/nUxcYCLS62

Many people were disgusted by his comments, including former National Security Advisor and ambassador Susan Rice. She tweeted a response to Snoop, writing, “This is despicable. Gayle King is one of the most principled, fair and tough journalists alive. Snoop, back the **** off. You come for Gayle King, you come against an army. You will lose, and it won’t be pretty.”
Users in Rice’s mentions had opinions on the debate.
“What I’m trying to figure out is what’s fair about Gayle asking Lisa about Kobe’s 2003 case while his WIFE (Vanessa) is preparing to bury half her family!! Name calling? I don’t agree with it but I feel Snoops pain like most of us!!!! I’m with Snoop!!!” one said.
“He can disagree but he had no right to call her a bitch and say they’re coming for her. What in the hell is wrong with everyone. And FWIW I disagreed with her question but no one deserves what Snoop said,” another added.
King’s close friend, Oprah Winfrey, said she has received death threats since the interview aired.
“She is not doing well,” Oprah said on the Today show. “She has now death threats and has to now travel with security and she’s feeling very much attacked. You know, Bill Cosby is tweeting from jail.”
She continued, “You know, I was on the phone with her this morning, I was on the phone with her last night, I was on the phone with her the night before. I think you stand in the gap, you try to be there for your friends. But this is very hard, because when you have social media and the force of social media, and particularly people who didn’t see either interview, making attacks.
“And I can see how people would obviously be very upset if you thought that Gayle was just trying to press to get an answer from Lisa Leslie,” Winfrey explained. “Obviously all things pass, she will be okay, but she hasn’t slept in two days.”
