The longtime funny lady from SNL, Leslie Jones has big plans for herself in 2020! The comedian recently revealed that she has a few new projects coming up, some that even involve a Netflix series in the works. Additionally, Jones has even shared her hilarious candor on award season, specifically The Oscars and their attempt at diversity. Leslie Jones doesn't think the Academy Awards has improved any since the 2016 #OscarsSoWhite movement. When it comes to Jones speaking her mind, she doesn't hold back.

The Ghostbusters actress is especially unafraid of backlash from fans. A few days ago, Jones tweeted that she only voted for "Cynthia Erivo in the category for Best Female Actress because there's not enough black nominees to go around." Fans were quick to respond, pointing out more black nominees in other categories. Jones clearly forgot to acknowledge the rest but honestly, there's only a handful of them. Arguably, Jones called attention to The Oscars lack of racial diversity. The awards committee still has a long way to go.

This year's list for Academy Award nominees is a clear sign of the committees' unwillingness to acknowledge the talents of other racial groups. The 2020 Oscars only include nominees like St. Louis Superman and I Lost My Body in the Film categories. In response to Jones' criticism on twitter, a fan posted a shocking statistic that showed only "a small percentage of Asian and Latino actors were nominated at the Oscars." Even in 2020, The Oscars are still predominately white.

The 2016 Oscars Movement

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time the Academy Awards have faced criticism over racial diversity. Everyone remembers the 2016 #OscarsSoWhite movement, which demanded the committee include more black artist and films in their categories. Rapper Snoop Dog was definitely vocal about his disdain for The Oscars. Other celebrities, such as Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee and David Oyelowo, weighed in on a boycott to never attend the awards ceremony again. Four years later and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs still hasn't made those changes she promised.

The 2016 boycott sparked change but still, the academy awards haven't done enough. Leslie Jones wasn't for it and still isn't in 2020. Even Best Female Actress nominee Cynthia Erivo agrees that the Academy isn't diverse enough. During an interview with Variety, the actress stated that "We’ve got to find a way to equally celebrate all the work that comes out, you know?" Erivo also recently didn't attend the BAFTA's either, due to the fact that no black actors were selected for nominations. It's good that Erivo agrees with Jones.

Jones Should Be The Oscar's New Host

If anyone should host the awards show this year, it should be Leslie Jones. Not only is she a powerful woman but also, hilarious. She brought down the house at the 2017 BET Awards. Given her talent for mixing comedy and candor, Jones should take the stage again. In the past, other black tv personalities have been chosen to host The Oscars like Chris Rock and Kevin Hart, who immediately backed out, due to anti-gay comments. If Leslie Jones were to host, more people might tune in!
