King appeared on a CBS This Morning Interview along with Lisa Leslie, a WNBA player and close friend to the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. Speaking during the February 4th interview, King went ahead to ask Leslie about the sexual assault case which was allegedly made against the star in 2003. Her interest seemed to be on how the allegations may have tarnished Kobe’s legacy.
Kobe Bryant died last month along with her daughter Gianna and seven other passengers who were aboard the helicopter which claimed all their lives.

Gayle King’s interview was followed by a massive social media backlash with celebrity stars 50 Cent and Snoop Dog taking the lead. 50 Cent dropped a video on Instagram, saying he expected more from King than what she did. He went ahead with abusive words to ask Gayle how she would feel about it.
According to Winfrey, everyone is putting King in a terrible position. She notes how her questions were in context during the interview, and no one seemed disturbed, including Leslie, to whom the issues were addressed.
As Oprah reveals, she understands what made people upset based on the clip, although she is concerned that King has not slept for two days. The victim on Thursday expressed her ill feelings at the ‘CBS This Morning’ bosses, arguing that they released an out of context and ‘salacious’ clip of her interview.
CBS, on the same day, released a statement saying that Gayle had conducted a thoughtful interview and that the posted clip was not representative of the full interview’s tone and nature.

Gayle’s bosses may have accepted the blame and committed to correcting the error. Oprah noted how people were attacking King, including parties that thought they could use her message and take any action. Everyone was making it difficult for Gayle, to the extent of feeling unsafe out in the streets.
According to the statement by CBS This Morning’s representative on Thursday, they were looking into the internal process that resulted in the occurrence, noting that they had already made changes.
