It’s been a rough go of a time the last few months for Justin Timberlake, who was embroiled in a cheating scandal when the famous pop musician and actor getting a little too close for comfort with his Palmer movie co-star Alisha Wainwright surfaced while they were on location shooting in New Orleans. The footage quickly went viral and created a big controversy given Timberlake’s long-term and much-publicized marriage to actress Jessica Biel, with whom he shares a 4-year-old-son named Silas.

Sources said Biel was devastated, understandably frustrated for the position he put her in, and humiliated; and that Timberlake felt awful.
He went on to issue a carefully-worded public apology over Instagram, saying: “I displayed a strong lapse in judgment—but let me be clear—nothing happened between me and my costar.” He attributed the embarrassing slip-up to drinking too much, and said he regrets the behavior both personally and in terms of the example he is setting for his son. “I apologize to my amazing wife and family for putting through such an embarrassing situation,” he added.
Though reports of a strained relationship and the couple attending therapy persisted in Hollywood, Biel posted a public Instagram to wish her husband a happy birthday on Friday January 31st, saying he’s the most timeless man she knows and: “we love you so much.”
Then, Timberlake came out to support Biel at the Season 3 premier of her hit show, “The Sinner,” at the London Hotel in West Hollywood on Monday February 3rd, for their first public appearance since he issued his Instagram Apology.
Now, on Friday, February 7, Timberlake released a new track titled “Believe,” in collaboration with rapper Meek Mill, and it’s a pretty obvious dedication to Biel.
On the song, Timberlake sings: “You know I still believe, still believe in you and me / ‘Cause every night I go to sleep, go to sleep / I can see it like a movie in my dreams.”
The response to the track was overwhelmingly positive on Twitter, with users calling it motivational and inspirational and [one fan])https://popculture.com/music/2020/02/07/justin-timberlake-releases-new-song-seemingly-about-jessica-biel-following-alisha-wainwright-drama/) saying: “‘Believe’ is an amazing track, that speaks to everyone who has been through tough times and has a will to persevere.”
Whether those tough times are within a marriage, or elsewhere, it’s clear the track is resonating.
It’s been known since fall of 2019 that Timberlake was working on a new album, which he said would feature black artists Lizzo, Meek Mill, and SZA, returning more to his r&b roots. Of course with “Believe,” we’ve already got the Meek Mill track, but we’re looking forward to hearing the other songs on what will be Timberlake’s sixth studio album, especially after his last album, Man of the Woods, sort of bombed commercially and was panned by music critics.
