It's that time of the year again folks. Yes, time to get all gussied up, practice those "not-disappointed-I-didn't-win smiles" and prepare the next most talked about acceptance speech for the ages. It's Oscar time!

Crowds will gather outside to gawk at the best dressed and the most outrageous looks sauntering down the red carpet. Nominees will flash 100-watt grins. But wait. What about those who may not be attendance at Sunday's Academy Awards show because they were not recognized for their brilliant contributions?

Although the 'SNL' alum Adam Sandler is best known for his comedy, critics praise his portrayal of Howard Ratner in the crime thriller 'Uncut Gems.' Ratner is a jeweler in New York City's Diamond District who is addicted to gambling. In order to pay off a debt, he must retrieve a very expensive gem.

Antonio Banderas, Leonardo DiCaprio, Adam Driver, Joaquin Phoenix and Jonathan Pryce may all have been nominated for Best Actor, but Adam Sandler is still a gem.

Best Actress

Nominees for Best Actress includes: Cynthia Erivo ('Harriet'), Scarlett Johansson ('Marriage Story'), Saoirse Ronan ('Little Women'), Charlize Theron ('Bombshell'), and Renee Zellweger ('Judy') but no Awkwafina.

Born Nora Lum, this American actress, comedian and rapper gives a standout performance in 'The Farewell.' The comedy-drama follows a family who decides not to tell their grandmother she is dying while they schedule a family gathering. 'The Farewell' also got snubbed for Best Picture.

Awkwafina, who earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical for her part in the film, also starred in the 2018 blockbuster movie 'Crazy Rich Americans.'

Fact, Tom Hanks is a born favorite. So are Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci and Brad Pitt. All legends. All deserving of their Oscar nods. Still, how do you scratch off 007's Daniel Craig?

In 'Knives Out,' Daniel Craig plays Detective Benoit Blanc, a man investigating the murder of wealthy crime novelist Harlan Thornberry. The morning after Thornberry threw a lavish 85th birthday party at his mansion, his housekeeper Fran discovers his lifeless, throat-slit body.

Daniel Craig's characters always have a knack for crime solving, worthy of recognition.

Jennifer Lopez was noticeably snubbed for the Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Ramona Vega, a veteran stripper who leads a group of savvy strippers in running a game on their Wall Street clients in 'Hustlers.' Jenny from the block made up for it during her halftime Super Bowl performance.

Just as important or perhaps even more so are the movie directors. This year, the Academy recognizes: Martin Scorsese, Sam Mendes, Quentin Tarantino, Todd Phillips and Bong Joon-ho. No Greta Gerwig for directing the critically acclaimed 'Little Women.'
