Taylor Swift's "The Man", the fourth track off of last year's Lover, is a feminist pop-song which puts forth the idea that many of the things Swift is criticized for would be viewed favorably if she was a man.

In her recent documentary Miss Americana, Swift is seen developing the song with co-writer Joel Little and speaking about the double-standards that inspired it, saying, "you are kind of doing a constant strategy in your head as to how not to be shamed for something on any given day. But then you get accused of being calculated for having a strategy.”

Last month, "The Man" was sent to radio, implying that it would be the fourth single off of Lover, and a lyric video for the song has just been posted today. The animated lyric video depicts a businesswoman walking through a cityscape full of giant businessmen and twisting stairways, before being lifted up by the hand of a giant woman and taken to a new city full of other women. Swift tweeted the video this morning, which prompted #TheManLyricVideo to begin trending.

Fans commented on the video link with high praise for both the lyric video and the song's message. One fan tweeted "Wow I love this lyric video! I'm so emotional and that ending was so solid! Women should always have each other's back and we walk as equals." Another tweeted, "It’s everything you embodied just how it feels to be a woman in this world in a lyric video... I can’t imagine the power in an actual video... I love you so much."

Since lyric videos are typically followed by music videos, fans have been speculating over whether "The Man" will get the full-fledged video treatment. Thus far there have been three videos released from Lover, for the singles "ME!", "You Need To Calm Down", and "Lover". The Lover videos have all featured vivid colors, dancing, and lots of cameos, so it is possible that a "The Man" video will follow suit stylistically. Swift has also been a co-director on all the videos in the Lover era, so it is also a possibility that she could have a hand in the direction of a new video.

The Lover era has been a particularly busy one for Swift. She has released several standalone songs outside of the album, including "Beautiful Ghosts" (co-written by Andrew Lloyd Webber), the holiday song "Christmas Tree Farm", and the recent "Only The Young", off of her documentary Miss Americana. Swift also starred as Bombularina in the film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Cats.

Miss Americana, a new, revealing look at Swift's personal life, creative process, and emotional evolution continues to stream on Netflix.
