There’s plenty of royal drama to go around, but there’s also a royal wedding on the horizon that will surely bring plenty of attention on its own. Princess Beatrice is set to marry Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi on May 29 of this year, according to The Daily Mail.
The wedding will be followed by a reception at Buckingham Palace, and Prince Andrew, Beatrice’s father, will be walking his daughter down the aisle. Andrew’s presence at the ceremony is likely to cause a stir all by itself.
Although it’s tradition for fathers to walk their daughters down the aisle, Prince Andrew presents a special case, in part because of the controversies in his recent past.
Royal fans were eager to hear details of Princess Beatrice’s engagement, but the plans for her wedding were largely overshadowed by her father and his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. On top of that, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they would be stepping back from the royal family altogether.
With the announcement that the reception for the wedding will be taking place at Buckingham Palace, though, some have speculated that Beatrice could play an increased role in the future of the royal family.
A reception hasn’t been held at Buckingham Palace since 2011 when Prince William and Kate Middleton were married. The significance of the reception’s location suggests that the queen may have bigger plans in store for Beatrice. On top of that, there’s the news about Prince Andrew to consider.
Ordinarily, there would be no announcement about who was walking Beatrice down the aisle. Unfortunately, nothing is normal about Prince Andrew’s circumstances within the family at the moment. Andrew recently resigned his position as a senior working member of the royal family after he gave an interview on his connections to Jeffrey Epstein that was considered a colossal PR disaster.
Andrew agreed to the interview in order to clear his name, but the conversation actually had almost the opposite effect.
The interview left Andrew looking guiltier than he had before, and the family had to no choice but to force him away from the spotlight.
Some had speculated that Andrew wouldn’t even be invited to the wedding as a result, but it seems those notions were a little overdramatic. Instead, Andrew will be in attendance, even if his role in the family is hugely diminished. He can still walk his daughter down the aisle, just as long as he doesn’t agree to any more interviews.
