Following a controversial interview with basketball star Lisa Leslie, Gayle King has been the subject of immense levels of backlash thanks to her referencing Kobe Bryant‘s rape allegations so shortly after his passing in a highly publicized format such as an interview with another famed basketball star.
King’s comments brought about a flurry of backlash but one specific individual was not a fan of her opinion whatsoever, and that is rapper Snoop Dogg, who condemned the personality’s comments on his Instagram page.
“Let the family mourn in peace,” the caption from the ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’ performer read, short and to the point. Although his caption was concise, the accompanying video rant was the opposite, with Snoop Dogg doing into great detail about his inherent problems with King’s approach to questioning the situation and insinuating negativity surrounding Bryant’s name so shortly after his untimely passing, which occurred on January 26 in Calabasas, California alongside his daughter Gianna and seven other passengers.
In a subsequent post, Snoop Dogg also referenced King’s famous best friend, Oprah Winfrey. He claimed that King’s negative energy towards Bryant, and the issues that stem from only allegations, are insignificant compared to Winfrey’s spiritual healer, who was jailed for 19 years for sex crimes and that King and Winfrey have seemingly ignored despite prevalent evidence of his guilt.
“We waiting,” he stated, “When. Or is it only blacks that y’all wanna interview and try and tarnish their reputation over accusations f both you h on behalf of the whole hood u b** not with us.”
The entire issue stems from a snippet of an interview King conducted with notable basketball star Lisa Leslie where she pressed the athlete to make comments regarding Bryant’s sexual assault allegations from the early 2000’s, a topic that has discreetly come up in passing since his death, but not on the scale of King’s platform.
The clip brought about immense backlash online, with fans slamming King for her approach and lack of consideration given the recency of the death.
“Free Bill Cosby,” the rapper also commented in regards to another Winfrey post.
In a subsequent response to Snoop Dogg and others comments about her, King took to Instagram TV to issue a long form video about the situation.
“I’ve been up reading the comments about the interview I did with Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant,” the television personality stated. “I know that if I had only seen the clip that you saw, I’d be extremely angry with me too. I am mortified, I am embarrassed and I am very angry.”
Kobe and Gianna are surived by Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka, and Kapri Bryant.
