Kelly Ripa has outlined a potential career she missed out on. The “Live! With Kelly and Ryan” host has many strings to her bow – actress, talk show queen, mother – but it looks like the 49-year-old didn’t pursue the career she’s just stated being fit for.
Kelly is convinced she would have made a great lactation consultant.
Appearing on an Instagram story posted by “Live!” Kelly got talking about breastfeeding, although this was, in itself, a tangent – Kelly went from talking about her stylish mini dress to nursing in the space of five seconds.
Here’s what happened.
The video started out with Kelly admiring her Zadig & Voltaire mini dress. The thigh-skimming number had been paired with a sky-high pair of stilettos, and Kelly mostly seemed happy with it – except for the “elasticated waistband.”
“I wish it were shorter or longer…does that make sense?” Kelly asked, before stating that she has a “long waist.”
And then, out of nowhere, Kelly had a brainwave.
“I should have been a lactation consultant,” she said.
“Let me tell you something,” she continued, “I was such my own lactation consultant that I was able to nurse my third child who was the world’s worst nurser.”
Kelly finish the sentence with emphasis and a giant whsiper.
Kelly admitted that her youngest child was still “a fussy eater.”
“If I had to nurse him first, I don’t know that I would’ve nursed the other two.”
Kelly is a parent to 18-year-old daughter Lola Grace, plus sons Joaquin and Michael.
Kelly is, of course, hugely vocal as a parent overall. Earlier this year, the star made headlines as she and husband Mark Consuelos “shut down” Lola’s NYU debit card after she was ordering pricey Postmates orders – and paying $25 for a $7 salad via delivery fees.
Kelly’s nest is emptying. Lola is now in college, although Kelly did talk about the joys of having older children shortly before Lola departed.
In 2019, Kelly spoke to The Cut.
“I can say, 100 percent, my schedule is easier now. There was a 15-year period where I went to work and then I’d head right to my kids’ school or a sporting event or made sure I was at the concert. Now that I’ve got one kid that’s almost done with college, one that’s going into college, and one that is halfway through his sophomore year of high school, I have a lot more time to free me up to do other projects. Maybe start acting again, who knows,” she said.
Earlier this year, Kelly took to Instagram with a proud momma moment that managed to pack in a ton of humor. The star posted photos of son Joaquin at a wrestling session, with Joaquin having stuffed pieces of cotton up his nose as bleeding prevention.
The comments section to the pics took a hilarious turn as Kelly referred to feminine hygiene products.
“You win some, you lose some, and sometimes you get a tampon shoved up your nose. #mayorscup #wrestlers #wrestlerslife ?♂️,” she captioned the photo of her 16-year-old.
Kelly then took to the comments section to answer a fan who’d asked what kind of “flow” it was.
“I would say heavy,” Kelly replied.
And there you have it. Never a dull moment from Kelly Ripa.
