Nicki Minaj has been one of the most popular rappers of the past decade with her banging body and the ability to spit classic rhymes that make her fans fall more and more in love with her. However, her success has come with many controversies and pitfalls along the way. And Nicki is no stranger to living her life within the public eye, encountering many celebrity beefs as well as constantly having her love life scrutinized under the watchful eye of the public.
Many of Nicki’s fans will remember her highly publicized relationship with Philadelphia born rapper Meek Mill, and their love seemed like something out of a Hip Hop fairy tale. Though they did have some ups and downs that were greatly discussed during their time together (which wasn’t very long). At one point, according to Vox, Meek and Drake (who was rumored to have had a relationship with Nicki back in the day) got into a heated beef surrounding a lyric from one of Drake’s verses on the track ‘Back to Back’
And the lyric in question pertained to Meek opening up for Minaj during her highly successful Pinkprint World Tour where Drake directly asks “Is that a world tour or your girl’s tour?”
He’s referring to Minaj’s Pinkprint Tour, where Meek is the opening act. To be clear, anyone not named Beyoncé or Rihanna or, yes, Drake, would be lucky to open for Minaj. Minaj is just that big of a star. But Drake makes it sound like a charity gig like Minaj is giving Meek a ride to the mall. This track also plays on the knowledge that Drake and Minaj were part of an industry showmance, where rumors about them dating are always around the corner.
Fast forward a few years later and now both Nicki and Meek are the ones beefing with one another. It all started with a barrage of nasty tweets the two fired off at each other, bringing personal matters into the mix with Nicki shading Meek’s new girlfriend and Meek calling Nicki a “bad person”. Now, Hollywood Life reports that during an interview after the firestorm of tweets Nicki is clearing up the drama by stating she should have just left it alone.
“Listen, it never fails. Every time I do it, five minutes later, I’m like, why the f**k did I…? Every single time. But it’s a good lesson in knowing how to master your anger and emotions. So every time I do that, I like give myself a talking to in my head, like, okay, you played yourself, you shouldn’t have did [sic] that. You learned your lesson again. How many times did I learn that lesson? So I gave myself that talk today.”
Hopefully, they can both let bygones be bygones and move on.
