The Duffer Brothers, the creative geniuses behind Stranger Things both said that they're ready to leave Hawkins, Indiana behind. In an interview about season 4, Ross Duffer said that he was pretty sure they'd be done after this season.

His brother Matt backed up this sentiment saying, "We just have to keep adjusting the story...though I don't know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year."

Ross followed this up with a joke about how it's about time the kids got out of Hawkins.

Executive Shawn Levy Isn't Quite Ready to be Done

Apparently, after the Duffer Brothers said they were ready to wrap on Stranger Things, Executive Producer Shawn Levy started getting panicked phone calls. He said, "Hearts were heard breaking in Netflix headquarters when the brothers made four seasons sound like an official end..."

Levy said that Season 5 was definitely a possibility. He made it clear that Season 5, if it were to happen, would be the last season for sure.

It's not surprising that Netflix and the producers want to keep the show going as long as possible. It was the second most-streamed show in 2019.

The Actors Agree That The Show is Nearing its End

Some of the main cast members have also weighed in on wrapping up the show.

David Harbour, who plays Hopper, said, "We don't have an open-ended thing like The Walking Dead. There is an end to all these characters... "We're going to give you something fun and then we're going to get out before we've worn out our welcome."

Finn Wolfhard agreed, commenting that the show probably only needs a season or two to wrap up the story they're trying to tell.

Noah Schnapp, aka Will Beyers felt the same, saying ”I think we should stop whenever the story feels like it needs to be completed. If there’s no more story, there’s no more story.”

A Two-Part Season Four?

The current theory making the rounds on the Internet is that Season 4 will be kind of a two-parter. It sounds like the Duffer Brothers have more story than will conveniently fit in one season, so there will probably be a season 5.

But it sounds like Season 5 will continue the story in Season 4. So, "Season 5" will essentially be part two of season 4. It's still unclear how many episodes will be in each season and how long of a gap there will be between seasons. Or if this rumor is even true.

So, Season 5?

The bottom line is, no one's quite sure if Season 4 is the end of Stranger Things. Since production just got started om Season 4, a lot could still happen to change the answer to this burning question.

It sounds like everyone's favorite Hawkins kids have one more epic adventure to go on. That epic adventure may wrap up in Season 4, or they may need a Season 4.5/5 to finish it up.

More Stranger Things is always a good thing in our book, so fingers crossed for Season 5!
