Wondering if you are the only one who can not stop scrolling on Instagram and TikTok? Well, Shawn Mendes is on the same boat because he too has an ‘extreme social media addiction.’
TikTok Is Everything To Me
The 23-year-old is deeply attached to all social media platforms so much so that he has to regularly take time off of them, so it doesn’t hamper his day-to-day errands.
Currently, the ‘Wonder’ singer is on a sabbatical from TikTok and wishes to stay like that for a while because the platform is apparently everything to him.
“TikTok is great. I have extreme social media addiction, so I have to really balance myself out. I have to delete those apps every now and again.”, Shawn told Audacy.
Social Media Breaks= Self Care
When talking about why he really likes TikTok and how long this break might last, the Canadian singer said “I’m on a TikTok break right now. But when I have it, it’s everything. I am a child of Vine. They’re different, TikTok is much more advanced.”
Shawn’s beau Camila Cabello, a successful singer-songwriter herself, takes frequent social media breaks in order to heal and spend time outside the digital world.
Off The Grid For Some Time
The popular couple considers this way of detoxifying as something that gives them newfound energy to better focus on their work with minimal distractions.
Moreover, the whole staying off the grid thing fosters a healthier lifestyle, to which the both of them entirely agree.
“Yesterday, I had a day off and I was just like, ‘I can’t be on social media today. I just notice it just makes my brain go so fast and sometimes you just need to take a break. A lot of the times I feel and I’m sure a lot of people feel, especially like female pop stars or pop singers, that the narrative can be kind of written for you.”, Camila said while talking about the effect constant internet and unending social media have on our brains.
Social Media Is Not All Bad
However, the duo registers the positive aspects of social media and appreciates it for it enables them to share with their fans what they are up to and insight into their otherwise private life.
According to the ‘Havana’ superstar, the fact that social media allows her to “take control” of her “own narrative” and show fans who she really is, is fascinating and helps her showcase herself to the massive fan following that she has.
The 23-year-old pop star further added, “The thing I’m thankful for social media is that it lets me kind of take control of my own narrative and actually share who I am, as opposed to people telling other people who they think I am. That definitely makes me feel better because the other thing is just really frustrating.”
Private Not Secret
Both Camila and Shawn are fairly active on social media and are frequently spotted out and about in LA.
Not too long ago, a few photos went viral where the famous couple was seen walking their dog.
Not to mention, the pictures collected adorable comments and well wishes for Camila’s then-upcoming Amazon Prime debut Cinderella.
