Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- but not according to science! Recently, Robert Pattinson has been named "the most handsome man in the world", according to Distractify. Now, this isn't to say that Robert Pattinson isn't incredibly attractive, but how can handsomeness possibly be quantified? Well, thanks to the golden ratio, it is possible to do just that! With so many handsome men in the world, however, you may be wondering just how the ratio came to determine Robert as the most handsome of all.

The Golden Ratio of Beauty Phi is a mathematical formula that has existed for quite a while now -- it dates back to ancient Greece! Let's break down how it works. Basically, a person's facial symmetry is measured through a math equation, and we're not just talking their general face. Every feature is broken down -- eyes, jaw, lips, nose, cheeks, eyebrows. They're all individually measured for symmetry, and then given a numerical score. The higher the score, the higher the symmetry level!

And, as it turns out, Robert's face got the highest score, coming in at a whopping 92.15%, according to The Daily Mail. This is certainly not the first time the golden ratio has been used to measure beauty. In fact, Leonardo DaVinci himself to map out "Mona Lisa" and "The Vitruvian Man", according to Distractify. Again, the main takeaway is the focus on facial symmetry -- and with a score of 92%, Robert's face may not be perfectly symmetrical, but it's pretty dang close!

Though Robert's facial symmetry beat out others for the title of "most handsome", he no doubt had some stiff competition. Henry Cavill came in a close second, and Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Bradley Cooper found their way on the list, too. As for women, this same ratio was used last year to name Bella Hadid the most beautiful woman in the world. Obviously, there are plenty of beautiful men and women who didn't make the list, so it's certain not all-inclusive.

You likely recognize Robert for his iconic role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. He's since moved on from his vampire days and has primarily starred in indie films, and recently starred in the critically acclaimed The Lighthouse. If you've missed seeing Robert on the big screen, you're in luck! The British actor is signed on to play Batman in the next installment, so we'll be seeing plenty of his beautifully-symmetrical face in the very near future as he takes on the iconic role.
