It’s been several weeks since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the decision to relinquish their roles as senior members of the royal family and move to North America, but is the Duke of Sussex beginning to get a little homesick already? Despite the couple remaining very busy with building their financial independence and determining what’s in store for the next chapter of their lives, a source close to Prince Harry and Meghan is indicating this might be the case.
The source close to the former royal couple shared with The Sun that Prince Harry is really missing his friends from the UK, post-Megxit, and has been using the WhatsApp group chat to keep in contact with them.
That, in itself, doesn’t seem to indicate the Duke Sussex is homesick; however, the source revealed that Prince Harry is communicating with them more than ever, despite having been in the group chat for years.
“Harry has been in WhatsApp Group with his mates for years and he uses that more than ever now to keep in touch and send pictures,” the source shared. But is the prince having regrets from deciding to move away from his home country?
While Prince Harry might have regrets from moving away from his family, it doesn’t seem to be the case when it comes to his friends.
According to the source, he doesn’t believe that the increased distance from his longtime friends will change anything. “He doesn’t think being on the other side of the world means that he will lose touch with the people he has been mates with all his life,” the source explained.
It’s an interesting sentiment, though. Previous reports had shared that since he married Markle, he had essentially shunned many of the friends that he’s had for years.
One of his Prince Harry’s best friends, Tom ‘Skippy’ Inskip had reportedly tried to prevent him from marrying Markle, which subsequently led to the duke cutting ties with his friend. In May of 2019, Tatler Magazine shared what went down between the two friends and how Harry ‘banished’ Inskip.
“Hang out with the Clooney/Beckham/Soho House set and be assailed for being too Hollywood, for forcing your hen-pecked husband to abandon his old, country-set muckers – including Tom “Skippy” Inskip, the ultra-loyal, tight-lipped Harry pal, who, it’s said, advised Harry not to marry Meghan and has paid the price: banishment.”
Another report from the Daily Express in 2018 shared a similar outcome for another of Harry’s friends, this time, PR guru, Astrid Harbord.
It’s interesting to wonder whether Prince Harry has tried to rekindle friendships in the wake of the ‘Megxit’ decision, or if he’s simply trying to maintain relationships with those that he hasn’t thrown to the curb and ‘banished’.
Regardless, Markle has reportedly also been getting in touch with old friends, but more so, to get back into acting and the film industry.
Prince Harry and Meghan definitely need friends to help them acclimate to their new lives, so hopefully, they’re able to keep the ones they have or at least, make amends with those that they left behind following their marriage.
