Shannen Doherty is Dying From Stage IV Breast Cancer; Wants to Die Peacefully at Home

Shannen Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 but it ended up going into remission. However, the cancer is back now and in the final stage of it, stage IV. Doherty recently announced during an interview with ABC News that it is back and is in the final stage before death.

Stage IV breast cancer means the cancer is spreading throughout her body and hitting her other organs. Doherty is dying and wants to die in peace at home.

Doherty finally revealed the fact that her cancer is back and is in the last stage, stage IV. During her interview with ABC News, she said, "It's going to come out in a matter of days or a week that I have stage 4. So my cancer came back and that's why I'm here."

"I don't think that I've processed it. It's a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. I definitely have days where I say, 'Why me?' And then I go, 'Well, why not me? Who else besides me deserves this?' None of us do."

She continues sharing her concerns, "I would say that my first reaction is always concern about how I'm going to tell my mom, my husband."

Doherty mentioned during her interview with ABC News that she decided to do the 90210 Reboot after she was told the cancer had come back. She also decided to do the reboot of the show in honor of Luke Perry. Perry was the original star of the reboot who died March 2019. Doherty said he seemed relatively healthy.

Doherty said, "It was so weird for me to be diagnosed and then somebody who was seemingly healthy to go first. It was really shocking and the least I could do to honor him was do that show. I still haven't done enough in my opinion."

"It's a hard one because I thought when I finally do come out I would have worked and worked 16 hours a day and people can look at that and say, 'Oh my God, she can work and other people with stage 4 can work. Our life doesn't end the minute we get that diagnosis. We still have some living to do."

Doherty chose to announce her recent stage IV breast cancer during her interview with ABC News because she said with a lawsuit pending for her by her insurance company, State Farm. Doherty is suing State Farm for fire damage that happened to her home in 2018, The fire to her home was caused by the 2018 Woosley Fire. According to reports, Doherty says she had to pay for the damage caused to her home out of her pocket since the insurance company wouldn't pay for anything. According to State Farm, the damage that was done to her home wasn't covered by her insurance policy.

State Farm said about the lawsuit and about Doherty, "We empathize with Ms. Doherty's health issues and wish her a full recovery. We strongly believe we have upheld our commitment to our customer and have paid what we owe on this claim."

According to court documents, the insurance company paid Doherty $1.1 million for the damage that happened to her home. This money was to help repair those damages and clean up after the damages done by the fire. It was also for Doherty to find another apartment to rent and for the furniture she needed.
