Demi Lovato shocked her fans and followers late last year when she posted a photo of herself with Austin Wilson. It was her caption that helped contribute to the surprise, because all it said was “my heart.”
Forgive us, but we had to do some research to even figure out who Austin Wilson is! Apparently he’s a 25-year-old model, and NOT the 27-year-old baseball player who got a degree from Stanford that you’ll find on Wikipedia.
Although it was a brief relationship, sources close to Demi has recently given an alleged reason for the pair’s split.
“She’s concentrating on herself and her work right now, as well as focusing on her relationship with God,” the insider told People magazine. “She’s excited for what this next chapter in 2020 will bring.”
They announced their relationship in November but had called it quits before Christmas. The previously mentioned photo that Lovato posted has since been deleted, as well as a similar photo that Wilson posted on his own account.
The source also said that the couple were friends before they began a romantic relationship.
“Demi and Austin have been friends for some time and started dating a little while ago,” the insider said at the time. “[Demi and Austin are] enjoying spending time together and getting to know each other better. Demi is in a really good place right now and hard at work in both the studio and shooting Will and Grace.”
Another source told E! News that “their lifestyles were not meshing. She’s very focused on her sobriety and God and it wasn’t a good fit for that.”
“She’s still working on herself and committed to that,” they continued. “She’s sticking with what she has been doing and working on her music. That’s her focus and nothing is going to change it. They decided it was best to go their separate ways. There are no hard feelings, it just wasn’t going to work with him.”
Despite the short length of the relationship, the breakup still came as a bit of a surprise to some of their friends – especially since everything seemed fine on the outside.
“Demi never let on that there was trouble and some think they might even get back together,” the friend said. “But to say it was a surprise that they broke up, especially around the holidays was definitely a shock.”
All is well, though – after the December 2019 breakup, Lovato hit the stage at last week’s GRAMMY Awards and sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl just a few hours ago. Her “comeback” performances have received nothing but praise, so we’ll have whatever she’s having!
