In Netflix's "The Witcher", Henry Cavill stars as Geralt of Rivia, a cursed human put in dangerous situations by chance. Although the show follows him, he's surrounded by several women's powerful storylines. Each episode follows him, Princess Ciri, and Yennefer of Vengerburg, amongst a supporting cast of mostly women.

These ladies are different in age, ambition, and goal, and provide needed depth to the fantasy genre. Without them, "The Witcher" would not have been as well-received, nor as fun.

Princess Ciri

Princess Cirilla is the granddaughter of the king and queen of Cintra, daughter of the deceased Pavetta. She's a promised child to Geralt of Rivia through the 'Law of Surprise', which in "The Witcher" world is unbreakable. Because she is technically his daughter, she has a bond to him that neither can explain.

She's young, naive, but compassionate. Moreover, she's desperate to escape the army that kills her family and destroys Cintra, leaving citizens as helpless refugees. Also, she has screaming powers that break stuff.

Yennefer of Vengerburg is a sorceress that originally dedicated her life and powers to serving royal families. Unfortunately, she found them corrupted and boring, wanting more purpose with her powers. Originally unwanted by her family for having a physical disability, she fills her need for love with materialistic goals.

Pessimistic and ambitious, Yennefer is not afraid of breaking the law or grabbing what she wants. However, she uncharacteristically finds herself falling in love with Geralt of Rivia, another outsider and misfit.

Tissaia de Vries is the head sorceress that trains young ones with potential and turns the girls who underperform into eels that power the kingdom. She also taught Yennefer everything and has great faith in her powers. However, like any student, Yennefer often rebels against her and insults her values.

Tissaia is traditional and stern, keen to keep her academy of sorceresses sacred. However, this is all at stake with an enemy kingdom destroying Cintra. Her pride keeps her fighting.

Queen Calanthe

Queen Calanthe is Ciri's grandmother and ruthless ruler of Cintra. Calanthe was once a merciless soldier on the battlefield, claiming victories for her kingdom. However, when Geralt of Rivia shows up to her daughter's engagement party, and accidentally 'Law of Suprise''s himself Ciri as his child.

Calanthe is bombastic and stubborn as she shuns Geralt. When he returns years later to keep Ciri safe from war, Calanthe throws him in jail. She does this for Ciri's safety but causes an imbalance in the universe, and it kills her.
