A 911 call was just released in the tragic shooting of a director of photography on the set of a new Alec Baldwin movie, and the person is squarely blaming a crew member for checking the guns before rehearsal.
The Emergency Call
According to the emergency call, released by authorities in New Mexico, a script supervisor calls 911 to report two individuals had been injured in a shooting after the actor fired a “prop gun.” In the audio, the woman is frantic to get paramedics to the scene to help the two people who were fighting for their lives.
At one point, the woman lashes out at a crew member, who she claims was yelling at her earlier in the day. “He’s supposed to check the guns,” she yells after cussing a few times. “He’s responsible,” she continues. It’s unclear exactly who she is referring to in the 911 tape, and it’s possible they bleeped parts of the call due to restrictions on people’s privacy.
Was The Bullet Real?
Clearly, the indication is that there was a protocol for checking prop weapons to make sure they are safe and ready — and she is blaming whoever’s job it was to check them. The dispatcher asks the employee if she knew whether a “real bullet” came out of the weapon which caused the damage, but she is unsure.
At one point, she hands the phone over to a gentleman who is nearby, and he continues speaking to the 911 operator. Although he can’t see where the injuries were located, he relays that each person had been shot once. The person also revealed the accident happened during a “rehearsal” on the set — and not everyone was aware of the accident.
As we reported, Alec Baldwin reportedly fired a prop gun on the set of his new western film ‘Rust’ and some sort of projectile or “live round” inside struck director of the photography and film’s director. Unfortunately, 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins died at a nearby hospital after being airlifted from the scene. Director Joel Souza was also stuck but has since been released from the hospital.
Baldwin Breaks His Silence
Alec broke his silence on the situation, saying, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred.”
He continued, “I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”
Obviously, the Sheriff’s Department is investigating how a live round or projectile would be inside of a movie prop gun. It should be noted, nothing has pointed at Baldwin having any responsibility in the situation. It appears to be just a terrible, terrible accident.
The situation is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s, District Attorney, and OHSB.
