Scene in Question

The scene in question is in Batman Begins. It's when Christian Bale's Batman is face to face with Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow. Scarecrow is ready to throw fear gas but Batman sees it coming and throws it back to Scarecrow. That's when we saw Batman's terrifying look under the fear gas. Fans originally thought it was all CGI, but with this new footage, we see the newly coined 'Demon Batman' was a practical mask specifically designed for that scene. This is a big deal simply because of the director of the film.

Nolan Vs. CGI

Christopher Nolan is one of the best modern directors we have in the industry and will go down as one greatest directors of all time. One of Nolan's signatures when it comes to producing a film is that he wants to make a film entirely of practical effects if it's possible only using CGI when absolutely necessary. This key detail of Nolan's directing style is what makes his films an amazing spectacle to watch. So it's a surprise that a scene in a Nolan film so blatantly uses CGI, but also not a surprise that Nolan found a way to get around it.

Legacy of the Trilogy

With the release of Batman Begins back in 2005, comic book fans were praising the film for the amazing origin story of the caped crusader. Fans' excitement grew when the film teased the Joker would be the villain of The Dark Knight. When the second installment was released, the unfinished trilogy was already in talks of being some of the best superhero films ever made. With a legendary performance from the late Heath Ledger, the trilogy has been cemented in history as the gold standard of what comic book films should strive to be.

Batman has been on rocky territory in the last few years with Ben Affleck signing on to direct, co-write, and star in a solo Batman film and shortly after opting out of the role entirely. Fans have recently become optimistic with director Matt Reeves being signed on and the vision he has for the character. Along with Reeves being signed on, Robert Pattinson was cast as Bruce Wayne beating out Nicholas Hoult for the role, Reeves believing that Pattinson was a better fit for the story he wants to tell. The Batman is set to release in 2021 and is one of the most anticipated comic films of the new decade.
