Jennifer Aniston needed little to caption her latest Instagram story. The “Friends” alum took to the platform on Friday morning with a photo of the back of an orange bus – the LED display on the vehicle had been changed to “RIP Kobe” in honor of the 41-year-old basketball player’s recent passing.
Along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others, Kobe Bryant was killed last weekend when the helicopter he was traveling in burst into flames. Jennifer is amid the many (many) celebrities leaving tributes for the NBA icon.
Jennifer didn’t provide a precise location for her photo, however those peering at it closely will have noticed that a car near the bus bore a California license plate.
The photo showed a white car in traffic and an orange Metro bus. A small display panel at the bus’ rear honored the Los Angeles Lakers star – indeed, it does seem that the basketball player’s passing has taken over the City of Angels. Los Angeles is now covered in graffiti spray-paint honoring Bryant’s namesake, with the Santa Monica ferris wheel also showing his basketball numbers.
“KOBE,” Jennifer wrote with a broken heart and hand-praying emoji.
Kobe left behind wife Vanessa and three children. Vanessa’s Instagram made headlines this week for becoming public, with the 37-year-old breaking her silence as she thanked fans. Vanessa posted a family photo and heartfelt words.
“My girls and I want to thank the millions of people who’ve shown support and love during this horrific time. Thank you for all the prayers. We definitely need them. We are completely devastated by the sudden loss of my adoring husband, Kobe — the amazing father of our children; and my beautiful, sweet Gianna — a loving, thoughtful, and wonderful daughter, and amazing sister to Natalia, Bianka, and Capri,” she wrote.
Vanessa then reached out to the families of the other seven victims of the crash.
Celebrities began paying tribute to Kobe within hours of the tragic news. Quick to take to social media to honor the All Star player were the likes of former President Barack Obama, current POTUS Donald Trump, plus various music, sporting, and acting faces.
Singer Demi Lovato posted a photo of herself with Kobe and Gianna.
“This makes me so sad. Kobe you were always so sweet to me. Known you over 10 years.. not super well but we always joked about you coming over and playing that game of horse! You will he so missed by so many. You’re a legend with wings now. RIP Kobe ??? update I just heard his daughter Gigi was also in the accident and it breaks my heart. This whole family was so sweet and now they’re in my prayers heavy. RIP Gigi beautiful girl. ???,” she wrote.
Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act. To lose Gianna is even more heartbreaking to us as parents. Michelle and I send love and prayers to Vanessa and the entire Bryant family on an unthinkable day.

“These pictures are just the tip of the iceberg of our relationship. He taught me so many things in life that were necessary on and off the court. On the court he taught me how to carve out defenses and how to take my time. How to make winning my ultimate goal. Off the court he taught me to sign my own checks lol. Of course anyone who knows my story knows I’ve suffered a lot of loss but the only loss I can compare this to is when I lost my son. Even though our relationship wasn’t father/son, it was more like him being a teacher and me being his brother…”
