Celine Dion has unfortunately canceled the debut show for her Las Vegas concert residency due to an unexpected medical emergency. The Grammy award-winning singer was forced to cancel after being unable to rehearse for the show due to "severe and persistent muscle spasms."
The residency was supposed to start with the first show at Resorts World on November 5, 2021, but the entire concert series is now indefinitely postponed.
Dion announced the news on Twitter in a statement that shared that she was heartbroken about canceling. She also wrote that her team and concert partners were incredibly sad about the development, but she must prioritize her health.
Here are more details on her medical emergency and what will happen to the Vegas concert residency.
Dion Announced The Vegas Concert Residency In May
Dion made the announcement for this concert residency in May 2021. It was set to be her third Las Vegas concert residency and was eponymously titled "Celine."
The original residency was for ten days, but she added more show dates due to the high demand for pre-sale tickets. The worldwide renowned singer also stated that the opening night performance would be a benefit for coronavirus relief.
This show was also given the same name as her previous residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. That residency debuted in 2003 and ran for 16 years, during which Dion performed a total of 427 shows.
Her first residency in Las Vegas was titled "A New Day," and according to Billboard, it lasted five years with 714 shows. Dion also recently announced that her upcoming Courage World Tour would resume from March 9, 2022.
The Unforeseen Medical Emergency That Affected Dion
According to the information released by Dion's management, the singer was suffering from "severe and persistent muscle spasms." The spasms prevented her from attending the rehearsals and performing, and she was eventually forced to rest and seek medical treatment.
This is what led to the indefinite postponement of the concert residency.
It has also been announced that Dion is currently being evaluated and treated by a team of medical experts. However, there are no further details about her health since the postponement was announced. No one knows the medical condition that caused the spasms and when the residency shows might be rescheduled.
Many of her fans and fellow celebrities have sent the singer their best wishes for better health through online posts and comments on her social media pages.
Dion Was Heartbroken About The Cancellation
Dion posted the news of the postponement via her social accounts on Instagram and Twitter.
In the statement, she shared that she was 'heartbroken' about canceling because she and her team had been working really hard for eight months.
She then apologized for disappointing her fans, who had made plans to come to her Vegas concerts. She concluded the letter with, "Now, I have to focus on getting better. I want to get through this as soon as I can." For many of her fans, this expressed the hope that she would recover soon and be able to reschedule the shows quickly.
Her Concert Partners Are Supporting Her
According to a report by PEOPLE magazine, John Meglen, the President of Concerts West and AEG, the promoters and partners of the concert residency are solidly behind the "I'm Alive" singer.
