Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a bombshell announcement about the Megxit which has since left the royal family with a void in its ranks. While the family could still be coming to terms with the announcement and its implications, some of the members need to step up and take the roles Harry and Meghan assumed.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie might take up the roles, although not everyone feels that the two should step up, disregarding if they are willing to take the positions.
According to Robert Lacey, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are likely to be the ones to take the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s roles. The royal family will bring them forward if the two are willing. Two must come in if a similar number steps away, and Lacey, who is Netflix series ‘The Crown’s Consultant and a biographer, feels the sisters will step forward in this case.
Princess Eugenie is the younger of the sisters and is married to Jack Brooksbank.
Princess Beatrice celebrated her 31st birthday last year, and her sister took to Instagram to wish her big sister a happy birthday. They have both been keeping low key since their father stepped down from the royal duties, due to his sex trafficking scandal.
Virginia Roberts alleged that the Prince Andrew had coerced Jeffrey Epstein with sexual demands, although he denied the allegations. Princess Beatrice had been one of her dad’s greatest supporters. Prince Andrew released a statement saying that his former association with Epstein had become a disruption to his work.
While the two sisters remain potential candidates for the roles, speculations still hold they may not take the duties together. Princess Eugenie and her husband, Jack, could as well be the perfect pair. Since their wedding in 2018, they have always kept their profile low, and have never had any royal responsibilities. However, the princess commits to ensuring the monarchy remains in a positive light.
She joins her grandmother every Christmas, and also appears at the Buckingham Palace for celebrations regularly.
Other possible contenders could be Princess Beatrice and her expected husband, Eduardo Mapelli. The two are to tie the knots this year, in a ceremony that will remain low key. Princess Beatrice has never held royal responsibilities but is a possible replacement for Meghan Markle.
In a survey to research what fans thought about the princesses taking up the duties, the majority were against the idea. Twenty-six percent against 30, thought Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie should step up to be senior royals.
