Since they announced their exit from the Royal Palace earlier this month, the world has been on the edge of its seat waiting breathlessly to see how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would get on as normal citizens outside of the Royal Family.
Likewise, experts, fans, and critics have all wondered how Queen Elizabeth II and the rest of the Royals would fill the gaps without the Sussexes. So far, they are turning the spotlight on Prince William and Princess Kate, at least on social media.
Prince William and Princess Kate have been busy with charitable appearances since Harry and Meghan announced their royal split. Prince William just gave a touching speech about his love for Africa at the UK-Africa Investment Summit at Buckingham Palace.
The Duke of Cambridge reminisced about spending time there with his brother, Prince Harry, and his father, Prince Charles, after the death of their mother, Princess Diana. William spoke fondly of Africa, revealing his affinity for it as the reason he proposed to Kate there.
But it is Kate that seems to be the real star of the royal show right now. From supporting ethical fashion lines to launching an initiative to better the lives of infants and toddlers, her work has been celebrated in the media, and the Palace is taking notice of the public’s reception of Kate’s good deeds.
The Royal accounts have been highlighting this charitable work through successive posts and have stopped making posts about Duchess Meghan and Princess Harry completely.
This does not mean Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s own efforts are going unsung. The Sussex account has been sharing the Duke and Duchess’ charity initiatives with the world, on their own.
However, this promotion has sparked some controversy, as some social media followers have taken the posts as a sign that Duchess Meghan is trying to compete with Princess Kate for followers. Rumors claim Meghan is jealous and timing the posts to coincide with the Royal Palace’s posts celebrating Kate.
Despite stepping down as senior members of the Royal Family, Meghan and Harry have retained their Duke and Duchess titles and do still participate in charitable events.
Duchess Meghan has been working with an organization that helps to promote the rights of teen girls and will be providing voiceover work for Disney to benefit an anti elephant poaching charity. Prince Harry and Meghan are also reportedly working on establishing an “eco charity” that will support female empowerment and the betterment of society.
