Another actor has stepped forward to give details of Harvey Weinstein’s harassment and assault allegedly perpetrated against her. Dawn Dunnings took to the stand earlier today to add her own testimony to the sexual assault case against Weinstein now being carried out in New York.
Dunnings walked the court through Weinstein’s treatment of her, as well as gave insight that could show something of a pattern of such sexual abuse against actors, according to the former producer’s reported own words.
Dunning first met Weinstein as a server at a nightclub. The young struggling actor hated her job and was looking to break into the entertainment industry when she met the producer. She said she had not recognized him, but that he had promised he could get her acting jobs and had her audition for some of his films.
Weinstein seemed to provide proof of his industry power, inviting Dunning and her fiance to attend a birthday party for actor Whoopi Goldberg.
Dunning testified that she had been attacked by Weinstein. After having had several encounters with the former Hollywood producer and attempting to work with him to be cast in his films, she met with him and his assistant in a New York hotel.
The former actor testified that Weinstein had assaulted her at that meeting and tried to brush things off when she reacted. He promised similar actions would never again take place and told her not to make a ‘big deal‘ out of the event.
Dunning met with Weinstein and his assistant again a few weeks later. She told the jury that Weinstein had been waiting for her in his hotel wearing only a robe. The producer allegedly promised to sign contracts for Dunning to be cast in three of his films if she agreed to a threesome with him and his assistant.
When Dunning showed signs of refusal, Weinstein reportedly became angry and swore Dunning would never work in Hollywood unless she agreed. He reportedly claimed to have created the careers of Salma Hayek and Charlize Theron in this way.
Such threats have been reported by Weinstein’s accusers before. Several actors have claimed the producer threatened to end their Hollywood careers should they speak up about his inappropriate actions.
Rose McGowan has stated she believes Weinstein spoke with producers and directors in the industry to prevent her from finding work after he allegedly assaulted her. Several women who have now come forward said they did not say anything at the time because they were afraid Weinstein would ruin their lives and careers.
