Well, it’s official; haters are gonna hate. Not that anyone needed a refresher in that lesson because that’s almost an unwritten rule like “Don’t run with scissors” or “Don’t play with fire“. In this age of division, it’s almost a daily habit for people who don’t like something to voice their opinions, which is totally within their right. However, just because you CAN speak on something doesn’t always mean you should unless you’re ready to face the repercussions of a good old fashioned CLAP BACK!
At this point everyone knows that Lil Nas X is one of the hottest artists out right now. His single, Old Town Road, struck a chord with many folks for its country tinged lyrics and booming baseline. But what many didn’t know is that Lil Nas X is an out and proud gay brotha who has no problems letting people know who he is. It’s a gift and a curse because some people have tried to discredit his experience, especially when he had an interview during HBO’s show The Shop, featuring Kevin Hart (who knows a thing or two about backlash from the LGBTQ community)
Adding a Grammy now to his list of accomplishment Lil Nas X can still rely on people’s opinions to show up in the form of distasteful comments from those who may be jealous of his success. One of those folks, old school rapper Pastor Troy (also known as Who?) had some words about Lil Nas X’s outfit for the Grammys and they were anything but complimentary. Buzzfeed reports;
This morning, a rapper named Pastor Troy took to Instagram and shared a picture of Lil Nas X in his Grammys outfit, along with an anti-gay message about how LGBTQ people “love to push this sh*t on our kids.”
“Y’all Better open that 3rd Eye and let your Sons Know What Is Real…Or They Ass Gone Be Headed Down That Old Town Road Foreal!!” he added, alongside multiple hashtags including #NotMySons and #ItAintWorthIt.
Of course when Lil Nas X caught wind of the comments rather than run from the confrontation he immediately clapped back at Pastor Troy in the best way possible.
The post quickly blew up online, with “Pastor Troy” trending on Twitter. So Lil Nas X just tweeted a response, and it was both simple and perfect:
damn i look good in that pic on god https://t.co/dIIKzTFa6X

And of course, since Twitter remains undefeated when it comes to roasting washed up rappers, they supported Lil Nas X by reminding Pastor Troy that he is, in fact, a bitter old man with nothing but shattered dreams to keep him warm at night. One user wrote “What is sooooo upsetting about that Pastor Troy statement is that he is raising his 14 year old son to be just as much of an ahole.” with another writing “Pastor Troy is irrelevant, miserable, homophobic, & bitter. Nobody with sense is checking for you nor your trash music. There’s no gay agenda. Nobody’s forcing anything on you & your son. You’re just bitter bigot who is mad that a Black gay man achieved more success than you.”
Yikes! Instead of bashing Lil Nas X for his outfit choices perhaps Pastor Troy should have just said “Congrats” and kept it moving. Because now he’s trending for all the wrong reasons.
