The afternoon talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres has trouble holding back tears on her weekday show. On Monday afternoon, Ellen discusses the news that shocked America and the entire globe with her daytime audience. She urges everyone to remember Bryant’s legacy and hold their friends/family closer than ever as life is never promised. DeGeneres even opened up about how Sunday was her birthday and the Grammys celebration yet she was so devastated by the loss of her dear friend, Kobe Bryant.
Expressing how “short” and “fragile” life is, Ellen DeGeneres is barely capable of holding back the tears that stream down her face when speaking about the late Kobe Bryant. He previously was on her show earlier last April, discussing the excitement regarding two literary novels he wrote to inspire young women everywhere. Both novels became bestsellers and Ellen even rewarded Kobe Bryant a mini Dumbledore robe for his newborn child. Ellen’s bond with Kobe Bryant was strong and this was made evident through her emotional response on television.
Ellen DeGeneres usually develops close relationships with the guests she invites onto her show but the connection her and Kobe had was special to her. DeGeneres told Americans that “yesterday was a celebratory day and we got tragic news about Kobe Bryant and everything changed in a second. That’s what I want to talk about. Life is short and it’s fragile. And we don’t know how many birthdays we have. We don’t have to have a birthday to celebrate, just celebrate life. And If you haven’t told someone you love them, do it now. Tell people you love them. Call your friends. Text your friends. Hug them. Kiss them. Be nice to people at the DMV. They’re people!” She candidly tells her live audience, “I was backstage before the show started and I was saying to tWitch, because we’ve both been sad today, ‘We’re gonna go out there and fill the room with love because that’s what everyone needs.’ Then I come out here and fall apart.” DeGeneres vulnerably announces.
The talk show host further exemplifies how thankful she is for everyone who watches her show weekly. DeGeneres even shouts out to her lovely wife and swore to just spread love through the remainder of the episode. She and Kobe opened up to each other about their families and undying love for their partners. They both held hope for the future and made the audience’s hearts warmer and bigger than ever. Ellen DeGeneres just wants her viewers to continue that legacy of love.
