Halle Berry Once Told Director Bryan Singer To 'Kiss My Black A**' On X-Men Set

Who knew the set of superhero movies could get so toxic? You're telling a story about characters with super human abilities who more often than not save the world. The premise of most of these stories seem straightforward enough to the point where there shouldn't be too many issues on set. However, as we've learned recently that wasn't the case on Joss Wheadon's Justice League set. Apparently that's not the only superhero movie that was a toxic place to work in. With new revelations pointing at X2: X-Men United as another film that had a ton of issues between the cast and the director.

Director Bryan Singer is a sketchy character to say the least. Although some of the more serious allegations that were made against him, (sexual misconduct involving underage boys), have not been proven what seems to be true is that he has some anger management issues. Those problems seem to stem from a long-standing addiction to painkillers. Actor Alan Cumming who is writing these stories about his time on the X-Men set mentioned, about the director,

"[Singer], has himself admitted he was using painkillers at the time”

Seemingly fed up with Singer's treatment of the cast and crew the all-star line up of cast members that were on hand in that X-Men movie confronted Singer about the mistreatment that they were receiving. Alan Cumming recalls in his book, "Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life", that himself, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, James Marsden and Famke Janssen confronted the director in his trailer. After the actors expressed their point of view including a moving speech by Berry, Singer replied by,

"[Saying] none of us had ever made a decent film” and “were lucky to be working with him,”

According to Cumming the conversation wasn't exactly well-intended at that point. With Singer not taking the advice that was given to him by the actors kindly. Instead, according to Cumming Singer proceeded to throw some more shots back at them. It was at this point that Halle Berry just decided that she wasn't going to stick around and be chewed out by the director. She reportedly said, “I’ve heard enough,” She would then turn around to leave, and as she was exiting the trailer told Singer,“You can kiss my black ass.”

The toxic environment in Bryan Singer movies have been well documented. The most recent incident happened when Singer was outright removed from directing Bohemian Rhapsody. On the basis that he would just not show up to work on certain days! Singer's reps have denied the altercation between himself and the X-Men cast. However, Halle Berry has confirmed that she had a rocky relationship with Singer telling Variety,

“I got into a few fights with him, said a few cuss words out of sheer frustration. When I work, I’m serious about that. And when that gets compromised, I get a little nutty. But at the same time, I have a lot of compassion for people who are struggling with whatever they’re struggling with, and Bryan struggles."

If she's admitting to throwing a few cuss words his way, saying "Kiss my black a**" was something that we can assume likely did happen!
