Actress Drew Barrymore Becoming Talk Show Host Competition

Looks like daytime talk show host Kelly Clarkson and Tamron Hall are getting a run for their money. CBS will be adding a new name to the network, Drew Barrymore. Yes, you read that right, actress Drew Barrymore will be receiving her own talk show.

We all know Drew Barrymore as an actress in classic blockbuster hit E.T.: The Extraterrestrial, filmed in 1982 when Barrymore was just 7 years old. The film was directed by her famous godfather, Steven Spielberg.

Barrymore went on to make a name for herself, starring in films such as The Wedding Singer and 50 First Dates, opposite of Adam Sandler. Three of the hottest blockbusters to hit the screen, Charlie’s Angels playing alongside Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz. So we know that Barrymore is no stranger to the camera.

CBS’s President Peter Dunn expressed excitement for the upcoming project. “We are very excited to be in business with Drew Barrymore and have our stations serve as the launch group for a show that is the brightest prospect I have seen in many years,” he exclaimed.

On Septemeber 9th, both Hall and Clarkson’s shows aired. Hall’s show is more along the lines of Oprah’s former talk show, with more human interest stories. While the bubbly Clarkson’s delves more into Hollywood having sit down talks with her celebrity friends.

It comes at no surprise that CBS reached out to Barrymore to begin talks of being in the forefront of her own talk show.

“It is beyond my wildest dreams to have this opportunity for a daily talk show,” Barrymore said in a press release according to Good Housekeeping. In the press release, she concluded with “I’m truly thrilled and honored to be creating this show with CBS.”

In an interview with Deadline, Executive VP of Sales for CTD, Jonathan Bingaman said “The response from the station community has been overwhelming.”

Bingaman went on to say “Stations have really stepped up to support The Drew Barrymore Show, and we can’t wait to bring the show to life this fall.”

The Drew Barrymore Show has cleared 85% of the U.S., according to CBS Television Distribution (CTD) viewers from a majority of the country will be able to tune in.

There is no official date yet when viewers will be able to tune into the new talk show but Barrymore is sure to capture audiences attention with her relatable and down to earth personality.
