Selena Gomez Praises Demi Lovato's Emotional Performance at the 2020 Grammys

Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez have been friends for years, since the time that they were young children appearing on shows such as Barney and Friends. Over the years, they have seemingly been cast alongside each other for programs on the Disney Channel, becoming best friends in the process; however, much like friendships go, there are ups and downs. This is no different for Gomez and Lovato who had a falling out with each other, leading to estranged feelings recently. Things seem to be on the mend, though, at least that is according to Gomez's praise of Lovato's performance at the 2020 Grammys.

Even though the two at times grew apart, that hasn't meant that they haven't cared about each other. When Lovato was 18, Gomez and Lovato weren't really talking to each other, but when Gomez found out that Lovato had gone into rehab, the Rare singer was instantly and emotionally compelled to reach out to Lovato. The Anyone star recalls the moment that Gomez called her. She said Selena "called me crying when I was in there and was just so worried." She went on further to say, "We’ve been through a lot together, we’ve had periods of times we here we grew apart and we just didn’t really talk."

In a 2013 interview with MTV, Lovato acknowledged that both she and Gomez realized life was too short to hold grudges or bad feelings towards one another and chose to forget the past. "Now we are in a place where I think we realized that life is so short and that when you have people in your life that love you so much then, you should just always be around them," Lovato explained. "She’s going to be a big sister, and I want to be around for that. Everything about her, she has a great soul, she’s talented, she’s beautiful, and she will always be really, really close to my heart."

Fast forward to last night's 2020 Grammy's ceremony and there was a lot to take in from Lovato's emotional performance. It was the musical artist's first performance since her overdose that occurred in 2018. And rightfully so, you could tell that she was highly emotional during the performance, even to the point that she had to stop and restart. As she started again, her vocals captivated the whole room and not a dry eye was in sight. The crowd felt the emotion and power in her song, Anyone, rising to a standing ovation after its completion.

Gomez Praises Lovato Afterward for Courage and Bravery

After the show, Lovato took to Instagram to share her thoughts on an amazing night for the artist. She offered thanks to all of those who have supported her and continue to do so sharing, "What an unbelievable night. My first time back on stage in almost 2 years. So emotional for me. Thank you all for the love, support and for sharing this moment with me. I love you all."

Gomez was equally mesmerized and happy for her friend, posting a feel-good message for Lovato on her Instagram story. "I wish there were words to describe how beautiful, inspirational and DESERVED this moment was. Demi I’m so happy for you. Thank you for your courage and bravery."

We're glad that Gomez and Lovato are once again close, and that Demi had the performance of a lifetime, letting the world know that she's back.
