Kim Kardashian has fallen under fire for an Instagram announcement posted less than 24 hours after news of Kobe Bryant‘s death broke. The 41-year-old NBA icon was tragically killed in a helicopter accident on Sunday – the crash killed all those on board, including Kobe’s 13-year-old daughter Gianna.
Kim did take to Instagram on Sunday to mark the Los Angeles Lakers player’s passing – and you can see Kim’s tribute below – but fans have nonetheless proven unimpressed as the KKW Beauty founder continued her business ventures on Monday.
Kim’s post was a video. It showed the makeup mogul speaking into the camera while wearing a low-cut and sleeveless top. Kim was proving every inch the perfect brand ambassador as she announced the arrival of a new KKW Beauty fragrance.
“Hey guys, I’m launching another fragrance,” Kim began, with the star’s caption detailing more.
“I’m so excited to announce my brand new @kkwfragrance Crystal Violet Musk – just in time for Valentine’s Day! When I was developing the new scent, I wanted to create something versatile and easy to wear,” the caption began.
“I went through so many versions and smelled a ton of different pairings to make sure I had the perfect scent. The Bergamot mixed with the Lavender and lush Oriental florals is such a soothing scent, it instantly makes you feel relaxed and refreshed,” Kim added.
It’s worth noting that many responses to Kim’s video were positive, with some fans appearing pumped to see the reality star add a new fragrance to her range.
That said, a marked number of users mentioned Bryant.
“Kobe Bryant just died and u already trying to promote ur products smh,” a user wrote.
The comment racked up over 480 likes in just 45 minutes.
“What a day to make this announcement,” another said, with over 100 users agreeing.
Perhaps sarcastic was another comment.
“Nobody cares Kobe is dead,” the user wrote.
Responses weren’t all one-sided. A fan replying in French seemed ready to acknowledge that business is business – and that life, despite tragedies, carries on.
“Les affaires sont les affaires,” they wrote, which translates to “business is business.”
“Can’t wait,” another fan told Kim.
Unfortunately for Kim, though, responses mentioning the basketball star were peppered amid the comments section.
“That is cool and all, but RIP Kobe and that’s all that matter today,” a user stated.
You can see Kim’s words regarding Bryant’s passing below.
On Sunday night, Kim posted a black-and-white photo of Kobe with his daughter Gianna.
“My heart is so heavy. No one should ever experience what the families involved are going through. This has affected us all so much but I cannot begin to imagine what Vanessa is feeling losing her husband and her baby girl. I cry just thinking about it. I am praying for the Bryant family, the Altobelli family and the families of all who perished in this unthinkable tragedy. Rest In Peace Legend,” she wrote.
Kim’s tribute post received over 5.4 million likes. Tributes were left by countless celebrities, including Lamar Odom, LeBron James, Barack Obama and Demi Lovato, plus Gabrielle Union, Kaley Cuoco, Tyra Banks, and President Donald Trump.
