Billy Porter is a fashion icon, y'all. Who else could wear a lamp shade on the red carpet and ooze avant-garde fashionisto? That's right, the Pose actor donned what looked like a motorized lamp shade on the red carpet at last night's 62nd GRAMMY Awards spectacular. No shade!

Porter razzle dazzled 'em in a crystal-laden blue suit that screamed disco queen. The pièce de résistance was a motorized hat that draped his face in crystals and parted ways to reveal Porter giving face in his trademark un-bothered style.

The Internet Lost It's Cool

Of course people on social media had a lot to say about the look. Reactions ranged from shock and awe to cries to "fire the stylist!" One Twitter user even posted a meme comparing him to the Queen of England. Another user posted on Twitter that "Billy Porter is NOT a fashion icon. There we go, I said it." Other responses were laugh-worthy. Oh the shade!

Regardless of what naysayers had to say about the ensemble, Billy Porter stans were all about the look.

What Billy Porter Stans Had to Say

Everyone surely had something to say about the actor's look. Not all of it was negative. Hater's gonna hate, right? Fans of the look took to social media to praise Porter for pushing the envelope. Not everyone can pull off a look like this with confidence and poise.

One activist on Twitter said:

"What's even more fabulous is if you do not want to listen or talk to certain folks you can just close the curtain!! Billy Porter for the win."

Billy Porter is known for serving looks and much attitude as a character on the FX drama Pose, which highlights the struggles and stories of the LGBTQ community in New York City during the 80s and 90s.

On the show, there is even an episode where Porter's character Pray Tell reluctantly dresses up in drag to highlight issues faced by the trans community. This TV moment is far from reality for the actor who plays on androgyny with his fabulous and often jaw-dropping looks.

Billy Porter's outfits are certainly a topic of conversation. At the 2019 Met Gala Porter noted during an interview:

"I'm not trying to top anything. I'm just trying to show up and be appropriate for the moment."

He is all about highlighting "camp" and bringing positive light to the ironic term. Camp is an adjective derived from French slang and at a basic level just means to pose in an exaggerated manner. Billy Porter is breathing life into camp and did so gracefully at last night's GRAMMY Awards!
