Ten months into 2021, and just when people were ready to write the year off as a total disaster, there comes a ray of hope.
The wonderful people at HBO Max have opted to surprise us with some very fantastic news. While rumors about a Sex and the City reboot have constantly circulated, the streaming service finally announced in October that it is, in fact, occurring.
Here’s everything we know so far about the return, featuring who has been confirmed to join the cast, prospective plots, and when the episodes will air.
When Will The Return Of Sex And The City Air?
While there is no firm date yet, Sarah Jessica Parker has confirmed that the show will launch in December.
There is no news as to when the episodes will be released in December, or if all of them will be released at the same time, but there is enough proof to believe that they will be released by the end of this year.
Who’s Coming Back From The Cast?
Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis have all stated that their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes, and Charlotte York, respectively, will be replayed.
What’s the major news? Kim Cattrall isn’t returning. It’s no secret that she and the rest of the SATC girls have had a tense relationship over the years, so this does not come as a surprise.
“Now I don’t want to be in a situation for even an hour where I’m not enjoying myself. I want to choose who I spend time with personally and professionally. It’s my life,” she said.
Kim went into great depth about why she didn’t want to return to her character: “I went past the finish line playing Samantha Jones because I loved Sex and the City. It was a blessing in so many ways, but after the second movie, I’d had enough. I couldn’t understand why they wouldn’t just replace me with another actress instead of wasting time bullying. No means no.”
Will Any Of Carrie’s Ex-Boyfriends Return?
Months after Page Six announced that Chris Noth would not be resuming his character as Mr. Big in the Sex and the City reboot, it was later revealed that the actor will indeed reprise his beloved role in the reboot.
“How could we ever do a new chapter of the Sex and the City story without our Mr. Big?” executive producer King said, resounding all our views. Noth had actually “been in talks for a while,” per Deadline, in spite of reports saying otherwise.
When speculations that he wouldn’t be in the revival surfaced in February, the actor teased fans. He joked to one Instagram commenter, “Well if Page Six says it… it must be true😉.” And to another, he replied, “Everything changes—including announcements in the rags.”
