What We Miss About The 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch' Series

Fans love "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" starring Kiernan Shipka as a darker, edgier version of Sabrina Spellman. It's a smart adaption that honors the memory of "Sabrina The Teenage Witch".

However, fans still miss Melissa Joan Hart's quirky and lighthearted version of a magical teenager. Written as a sit-com rather than the current drama on Netflix, the show's demographic was for young kids. Now, the Netflix series is definitely not for kids, but it is targeted for old fans of the original series.

Salem The Cat

In "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina", Salem the cat does not talk, to most fans' dismay. This was a shock considering Salem's sarcastic remarks were a favorite of the show. Now he's played by a cat and CGI version of himself onscreen.

It's also surprising that Salem can't talk because of the internet's obsession with screenshots and gifs of his famous quotes. And there are enough episodes for him to have a line for any situation imaginable. He's the most relatable cat!

The Camp

"Sabrina The Teenage Witch" is campy sit-com, there's no way around it. Sabrina's crazy episodes have her doing the darndest things, like eating an infinite amount of pancakes because she's cursed. Or winning Kung Fu competitions with magic. Or accidentally turning her boyfriend into a frog by kissing him.

In "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" curses are different, fatal if not taken care of, and definitely scarier if attached to monsters. There's nothing wrong with that, but fans miss the camp and fun.

The Aunts

Hilda and Zelda have almost completely different personalities on "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina". Hilda is a dulcet but traumatized woman while her sister Zelda is domineering and conservative. It's a fun twist to the odd couple relationship, but nowhere near the original aunts.

In "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" Hilda is a spunky, funny, and dating crazy woman, while her sister is a goody-two-shoes and ingenious scientist. Their dynamic is more wholesome, fighting over silly things instead of imminent doom and satan.

The 90s References

The greatest parts of "Sabrina The Teenage Witch" were the time period stamps from pop culture. Although "Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" has a 1950s feel to it, it does not have a distinct time period.

In the original series, there would be many references and nods of the 90s, specifically an incredible episode guest starring Britney Spears. There's a whole music video with Melissa Joan Hart, where they both sing and dance in cute outfits. Nothing can beat iconic moments like that!
